where do you get off posting a thread like this?
You obviously search the forums constantly, if you have no threads to post on you are not happy. If you have a tread to post on you are not happy.

Thanks for putting this up. I'm just getting into 1/8 scale, and really am looking at hitting it hard. With so many company's making these, it's hard for a person who just started looking to decide which is best for him/her.
I'd like to quiz some pro's. Which are the newer model buggies? For example, i see like 15 different ofna's. Hyper 7, pbs, pce, pci....with just the hyper 7 there are many different versions. I hear people saying the hyper 8 is better in quality than the hyper 8.5 etc etc. Kyosho has the 777....just 5 different models of it. Mugen is the same. It's hard for a person like me who is just starting in this to say "that's exactly what i'm looking for," when they all are looking the same. Some buggies are made for racing, other for bashing.
I'm planning on throwing in a os max .21 vzb v-spec into anything. But it's a hard choice to decide what to put it into. The losi eight is looking good, the mugen mbmb5tq874mb is looking good as well. Here is where you can see my confusion. To quote Ricky Bobby "i just wanna go fast." And i'd like to be able to handle the track while i do it. Maybe they all do it in their own way...i just can't decide.

First thing to consider when buying a buggy are you going to race or just bash!

Racing is my primary motivation for getting into 1/8 buggies. Got a new local track for it, and a few more around the community. Plus i have a basher to play around with.

Well with racing being your primary goal then it's cheaper to go the Pro buggy KIT route, this will save money and give you a stronger starting chassis. ATM the most proven chassis' are the Xray XB8EC, MP777 SP2WC Hyper 8.5 and the now old Hyper 7 Pro. The other buggies are also good, but theese 4 stand out in reliability and strength.
The V-spec VZB is the engine I use in my racer so there is vindication enough for you to use that. Be sure though to get a matching pipe for the engine, The O.S. T2050 is the best for it.
Radio systems depend on wether you want sticks or wheels, then there's FM or 2.4GHz for racing (AM is for kids). Again I don't go cheap here either, Ko Propo is my brand of choice and I'm awaiting delivery of my Vantage 3 set right now.
Servos will make or brake your racing pleasure, don't skimp here either, you really do get what you pay for and I will pay for a good $100+ servo. Again Ko Propo is where I go for my direction on this matter.

Well said. Go with quality and forget all the bling-bling aftermarket hop-ups until you break or actually see a benefit of getting them. Spend your money on tires, shock/diff oils, fuel and other regular running costs.

I am looking for a bash bugghy, I like the violater buggy with the 32, claimed top speed of 50, also the ravager. I have a hyper 7 pro and a hyper 7, both are in need of minor work. Better motors and radios. Would I be better off to work with what I have, just like the bashing, nowhere local here to race, or to get one of these other buggies?

Yes, going from Hyper 7 of any kind to Violator would be a step backwards. Fix the cars you've got. For the money another kit would cost, you could get one of those Hypers up to race spec.

Without some kind of well written FAQ in the first post (for an example, see the now fairly out of date 'choosing first car' sticky in the on-road nitro forum), that is unlikely, though you are welcome to petition Nathan, all stickies must be approved by him.

As for the petition, heck, I aint even allowed an avatar or even a sig, what's the chances of Nathan even opening my ticket to ask about geting this made into a sticky. ?????

Hmmm, ok, I promise if this thread develops nicely, I'll look into it again. I agree with the sentiment, lets see where it goes...if it gets used, I don't see why not, we don't have any other stickies in this forum, so it's not like it will clog the place up.

Hey guys im on a budget, FYI( just a kid) and need a really realiable racer. Would like to have a kit, but probably wont be aable to afford it. I was looking at the hyper 8.5 pro or the Cen matrix Ft. If i cant afford those i would go with the hyper rtr or the cen rtr.
Any suggestions. what one is more reliable. And wihich one handles better on the track. Like to much oversteer, or understeer.
Also i have an mgt so thats my basher/racer.

hyper 8.5? thats some budget
if you looking to get a 1/8 scale buggie to race/bash consider a couple of things first
1. local hobby shops, they dont have ever part for every single car out there.
i recently bought a hyper 8 rolling chassis on ebay and a macstar engine to put it in knowing my local hobby shop carries
ofna parts but i soon found out they carry parts for the ofna buggies they sell not for all ofna buggies. some parts
are universal but i have to wait for most parts to be ordered. this is ok if you buy all your parts online but what
happens when that stupid front end peice brakes again and you have to wait for 1-2 weeks to get it.
2. if your racing what kind of competition are you up against?
im new to racing 1/8 scale buggie and rc racing in general and i asked the same type of questions about buggies
when i was looking to buy one. it seems that everyone in these forums is a pro or, maybe most people at my race track
are just poor because i dont see alot of super hi end buggies at the track. ive read it time and time again its 80% driver
i was convinced i needed better then a 300 rtr but looking back on it i should have bought a hyper 7 RTR for about $300 to
get going and after i got better at driving and decided that i have the time and money to race every weekend, build up
a nicer buggie
just my newb thoughts

Well I got my wish list up, heres what I plan on getting.
Xray XB8EC
Go Tech .21 5 port turbo
Dynamite Platinum 1/8 086 High Speed Inline Exhaust System (Hard Anodized)
Ofna chrome top
2x Ace R/C DS1015 Super Torque Digital Servo
proline crime fighters for the tires.
All in all it comes to around 1200 on amain Less then I thought it would come to actually. Now just gotta save my pennies and wait for my tax return come february and ill get it all in one go. I already have a spektrum dx3 radio.

What about the O'Donnell buggy? I've heard nothing about it apart from Jared TEBO winning a Motorbike with one. Is it comparable to all other top end kits in price and quality? I like the idea of it because it is rare.
