Just pulled my Tiger apart for a full metal upgrade and installed new metal gearboxes with pre-owned white cap motors. Done a pretty good airbrush job on it, fitted black metal tracks, metal suspension, chassis stiffening plates with brass suspension pivot arms, metal cupola with machine gun, metal opening front hatches, all steel sprockets and idler wheels etc etc. Attacked the bodywork with a dremel and weathering powders, sprayed up the tow cables and to be honest...it's looking great but going nowhere!!
One motor refuses to run in reverse, the left one (if you were sat in the turret). Both motors run fine forwards, and the right one runs in reverse fine too.
So, does anyone know if this is a motor problem or a board problem? The old black cap motors worked fine, so I could swap those in if that is all that the problem is.
If anyone has a close up shot of an S & S board showing where the motor wires solder on I would be very grateful, the black wire from the left motor came off during disassembly, and although I am pretty certain its back in the right place I would rather be totally certain.
Cheers guys

hi mate welcome to the forum what board do you have
if its the tkrx13 then you may have popped a transistor
these are mounted under the aluminium heat sink one does left forward the next to it does reverse and so on

Yep, its a '13'. I guess the only way to tell is to solder the wiring back to an old motor and see if that works or not. If it is the board where can I get one (or can the transistors be replaced?), and do you know which one does what eg forward/reverse etc.
Thanks for your help

Tankzone in the UK has them, and then there are a couple of German sites that advertise the boards for sale.
Heat sinks, and saying whoa when it won't go are two things you can do to prevent it from happening again.

More then likely you soldered this wire to the wrong place. If you didn't you blew the transistor for that circuit. It's less expensive and time consuming to simply replace the board with a spare then to repair it. Welcome aboard and please post pictures! We enjoy seeing each others work!

get hold of pugwash on the bay and he will get you a sparkly new tkrx 14 board and then you wont need to worry
but if you do want to go down the repair route i did with an old non s+s board pulled the trannys out and popped em into the fried one and the rest is history
as you look at the board on the writing side there are as follows (this worked for mine)
Q3= right track forward
Q4= right track reverse
Q5= left track forward
Q6= left track reverse
hope this helps Rob

Yup, just tried one of the original motors on the left circuit and that doesn't reverse either, so I guess that confirms a blown transistor. What a bummer, just spent a week spraying it all up and fitting the new bits and looking forward to getting it running again!!
I will order a new board, and see if I can buy the transistors (they will be pennies) to repair the old one as a spare.
Thanks for the help and advice, much appreciated, and once it's all back together I will post some pics.

If anyone can tell me what spec they are I will see what the local electronics shop sells them for? Electronics components are usually as cheap as chips (scuse the pun), especially when bought in bulk. I used to buy resistors, LED's, etc.

Here' a tip. If a wire comes loose on the circuit board, check the silver tracks on the board if the tank malfunctions after you have soldered the wire back on. I just ordered and fitted a new board, only to discover it wasn't the transistors the end of the wire that came loose had cut tthrough the conducting strip that led to it. Doh!!
Anyhow, it's all back together and working perfectly again, having had the following updates.
Metal front sprockets.
Metal idler wheels.
Metal tracks.
Metal suspension supports and chassis liners.
Metal Cupola with spring loaded hatch and machine gun.
Metal opening front hatches.
Metal gearboxes and white cap motors.
All of the moulded tools and boxes ground off.
Armour attacked with a dremel.
Original tow ropes removed, airbrushed and replaced.
Everything airbrushed, then weathered.
Just need some metal tools and other bits to stick on Der Tiger, and it will be just about finished!!
Thanks for the help and advice, and Pugwash had the bits with me in no time.
Cheers
