As per the post. I'll be down in the SF area for a wedding in May and want to get in on the great pricing you guys have down there. What's the best place for RC? I'm into both Cars/Trucks and Helis.
Thanks

one of my favorites is amainhobbies.com I'm in San Jose and often times when I order from them I get stuff the next day
seems like the smaller local guys sometimes lack in inventory, but I try and shop there to support the track
www.norcalhobbies.com these guys are in union city and have a great off road track (and indoor and on road as well)

I've thought about making the drive up to amain, how far away from San Jose is it? Google tells me 3 and 1/2 hours.... might be a bit too far.

yeah I just have them ship stuff to me, they use USPS and charge reasonable rates for it
I would never drive all the way up there

it all boils down to... do you have a car? and are you willing to drive?
accessible by Muni (Bus - Public Transportation):
* Hobby Company (on Geary st. lousy selection, lousier prices);
* Franciscan Hobbies (on Ocean Ave. Bigger selection, but still lousy prices);
take Bart (Subway - public transportation), and catch a cab...
* RC Tech (Daly City, i haven't been there yet. and if you search and find the one on Geary St, that's long gone)
* All Speed hobbies (located in South SF. good parts selection, when i visited 2 months ago they had just finished moving, as such they were restocking on their kits);
* Boss Robot (located by UC Berkeley... across the bay, and a short hop from my house. they can get almost anything i need. as such, they are my store of choice)
Just gonna rent a car and Drive... (sorted by distance from SF)
* Talbot's Toys (San Mateo, great toy shop, lacking in the RC department)
* Victors Hobby (Newark, tons of plane and heli stuff)
* Norcal Hobbies (Hayward/Newark. mainly cars, and parts. they have some planes and helis, their main draw is their car track)
* Aero Micro (Santa Clara, excellent selection of airplanes/helis)
* Sheldon's Hobbies (they've changed owners! we'll see how that works out... but they're in Milpitas & San Jose)
* DJ Hobbies (South San Jose, i haven't been here in years, but they had lots of stuff back in the day)
* Hobby Town (chain store, locations everywhere, just search their website)
These are just off the top of my head, perhaps another member can shed some light on additional places i missed.
but basically, in the city, there ain't a whole lot of selection. you need to go outside from there.
have fun at the wedding. oh, and bring some warm clothes to layer with. May can be deceptively cold... and it can also be really warm once you pass the fog belt. go fig.

thanks yellow, that's a good list. I'm going to be staying in SF for 3 days and san jose for 3 days. but... I'll be there with my wife and kid so I'll probably have maybe one afternoon or one really early morning to go out on my own. I'll have a rental so driving is not an issue, unless some places are just easier to reach by public trans.
Keep them coming guys, great info so far. I might even order something from amain ahead of time and have them ship to my bro-in-law.

I like Jakes Performance Hobbies, this guy came to iowa to race years back and is a very good dude IMO. Its like 30 miles from san fran proper, depending on traffic this could be 20 minutes or four hours in california traffic lol, 100 mph or stand and go.
