Here are the pictures of my next project:


the wing structure:

The nomex/carbon sandwich frames:

This aircraft is based on the fantastic Grumania kit. I got it at a prototype stage, so it is a kind of semi-kit for me.
This is what I wanted, since I will be able to do it "my way".
The quality of the kit is fantastic and compares to Skygate Collection products.
The structure has been designed to be as light as possible and the plane will be around 13 kgs dry takeoff weight and 16 kgs full takeoff weight.

I will power the bird with a pair of P-60SE. The engines are at the factory in Germany for pairing and servicing.

Is it my imagination, or is the nose shorter than scale?? IF so, is that just a prototype dimension?
Sorry, it will be a very cool project either way...but I'm almost certain they've goofed up the nose lofting. I hope U don't mind my pointing it out

I can't tell you about the nose section.
When I work on a scale project I take a lot of time to study the plane.
I have 7 books talking about this plane including the scale drawings and it has taken me a lot of time to read the amazing story of this plane.
Unfortunately I have not studied the drawings yet, mostly because the F-84G is still sitting on my workshop table.
When this one is totally finished, I'll be able to set it up properly on the table and verify the dimensions.

The photos in the thread are taken at an angle so it's hard to tell if the nose is right. Using the floor tiles as a guide, and comparing the length of the nose to the engine nacelles it doesn't seem to be far off from the three-view.
Oliver, finish the F-84 and check this out for us.
By the way, is the food still excellent at the Dubai Golf and Country Club? I had absolutely best "chicken fingers" in the world there for lunch one day!!!!! The Aviation Club buffet was pretty amazing too!!!!

The only way to make sure about this is to check it on the bench. However, knowing Ilja, I strongly doubt there is a mistake on this section ( he has the original certified drawings and is very precise in his work... )

I'm afraid it's going to be hard for me to bring a jet to the USA next year since I have a big professional deadline to meet. It is likely to get me out of this hobby for half of the year...

Here is the list of equipment I am planning to put in this plane:
2 P-60 SE with cross link software and equipment
A 35 Mhz Weatronic receiver with GPS + gyros
6 JR 8611A for the wings
2 DS 3421 on the elevators with short pushrod connexions
1 DS 8611A on the rudder, 1 DS 8411 on the nose wheel steering
2 kevlar tanks in the fuselage ( 2,2 ltrs each )
Jettronics gear and break valves and 3 BVM micro pneumatic switches for the gear doors ( no sequencer )
1 Tamjets gear failsafe
I will make the following:

all of this will be CNC cut
Scale cockpit around the 1/5th scale pilot that Ilja will provide to me soon.
Scale bombs/rockets depending on the version I'll choose.

I have just resumed the works again.
I have almost all the components now. The engines are back from Germany and have been cocooned by Max and his team. Should be great.
I have finished the drawings of the tail section setup ( superlight carbon/nomex sandwich structure housing two DS 3421 for the elevators control ).
I am now working on the engine nacelles and wing center section.
Are you going to be at the CA Jets ?

Good to see some photos of your 262. I took delivery of mine last week and I've been "exploring" everything and have heaps of questions and things to resolve. Have you decided how you will mount the engine nacelles? I'm thinking of making these detachable which will require some extra stucture and mounting points.
Anyway, I'm keen to follow what you are doing.

PS : the new jet pipes are under construction and I have decided to make double walled convergent/ divergent ones as a standard. This kind of pipe will produce a thrust gain of about 8 % !

I will probably go for a shear pin mounting method for the nacelles.
The middle nacelle former can be moved and extended to go through the center wing section. I would then use two 6 mm carbon pins to hold the former at the back of the front spar.
A former should be made to seat aft of the rear spar location. A 4 mm nylon screw could be used to fasten the rear assembly. The holes in the outer rib center section would be usefull to fasten the screw.
I have just finished writing an detailed article for the next RCJIpublication . I tried to make it complementary to the excellent building manual from Ilja...
In any cases I'd be more than happy to help you and answer as many questions as you want.

Tom, I used to design jet kits for AD. I must say that I have enough of this and I'd rather spend time on assembling kits and enjoy quality finishing and flying.
