Default How about a Vintage Section

In response to suggestions here is a poll as to whether people would like to see a separate vintage section for all those vintage cars we love so much. This is in response to the below thread.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8407758/tm.htm

Thanks

I am sort of surprised that there are actually people voting no. If you do vote no, please respond with your reasoning as to why you voted no. Will a "vintage" thread affect you so much that you don't want to see one when you sign on to RCU?

I made my vote, YES. Hopefully we can get at least 40-50 people to vote yes!!! Maybe then we'll have a chance, all be it tiny, to get an actual vintage forum up. I don't mind having to post vintage related topics in the General and Off Road electric sections, but with so many other threads they tend to get lost. I hate having to hunt through a couple of pages to find them again. I know a vintage forum wouldn't be the most popular, but I would check it everyday as I'm sure many of us other vintage nuts would.

I a little surprised that someone actually voted no? With all the threads and subforums someone actually voted no as in 'No, I could not bear to have a forum with a vintage section.'

Yeah, I thought that was pretty weak too. He must love the model rocket section that's always jam packed. Not enough room for another forum.

I don't see enough threads being made to warrant recommending a separate vintage forum. I don't have anything against vintage r/c (I have several new and used vintage vehicles in my collection), but I don't see the traffic to require one.

I think that having to post to other catagories (general and the offroad buggies/trucks/truggies) is sort of a deterrent to post as the vintage stuff gets overrun by the threads about revos/lipos and such real quickly. I know that if there was a vintage section I will check it daily as well. Look at RC Motorcycles, there are not more than a few post total in the whole forum per week about those and they have their own section.

Thanks

I am not sure, what does everyone think. I usually consider anything from the 80's or older vintage, but maybe it could include stuff from the 90's?

10+ years....at least that what we used as our guideline for racing. I believe a vintage forum is needed. A guy has a ton of weeding to do to find a thread on his old car here. It could be in so many different places as it is now. Why not a vintage forum? I mean there is forums for the "full scale versions of our r/c stuff" or off topic......or rocketry...nothing to do with r/c....yet a vintage column is unheard of? Come on RCU...help out the mullets.

There are several forums/sections that get very little activity:
1 page in the motorcycle forum is 5 months worth of posts
1 page in the Schumacher R/C Superstore Support has 9 months worth
1 page in the IRC Racing Support has 9 months worth

and is there a sub section for every brand of gas/nitro motor?
1 page in the Fuji-Imvac Engines Support has 9 months of posts
1 page in the Quadra-Aerrow Engines shows one whole year

surely a vintage section could do as well as some of these

There have been a ton of people looking at this, but not many have voted. Please vote "yes" if you want the vintage section so we can show that there is actually some interest.

Thanks

Yeah, please vote! A vintage section could cover old Tamiya, Kyosho, Associated, Losi, Traxxas, etc... I know their are a lot of people out their with interest in the old AE and Tamiya stuff, because I see posts for it in the General and Off Road Electric sections fairly frequently.

I voted no, because I'm not really into vintage stuff, I'm more into the high performance cars...But it doesn't really matter how many people vote No, matter of fact, you should probably remove the No option, becuasr the mods and admins are only going to pay attention to how many people DO want a vintage section, and so far, thats not alot...

Yeah, bring it on!
I think a vintage section would get lots of posts.
it would also lighten up the general , electric offroad & electric onroad sections too.

There has to be more interest than this, vintage RC's are so cheap and are still pretty durable. Please vote so we can get a vintage thread.

well, to keep this at the top for a bit, I have a question. anyone know if the transmission in a losi lxt can handle any kind of brushless? honestly I have not opened it up to see what kind of gears are in there yet.

I'm not sure, but I ALWAYS see people on here talking about blowing out their Losi diffs; even without brushless. Apparently they're pretty much junk. I think you can put the one from the DT in a lot of the vehicles though, and that's a stronger diff.

I am a huge vintage fan, it's good to know where we have been to know where we are going. This has been up for discussion with the administrators and I think they are willing if the demand is real. If they see real demand, I think they will provide a vintage forum.

Count me in for support. With all of the differentiation within some of the other sections, I believe the Car forums could benefit from the addition. Plus, I am on a roll after the AE Monster Truck subforum victory

I voted yes [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Yeah, and that AE MT forum is already super busy compared to MANY of the other forums on here! I voted yes on that one and I've voted yes to the vintage forum. I see we're up to 33 votes now. I'm pretty sure that if we started a vintage forum their would be at least a couple of dozen posts everyday if not more. A lot of people on here are older and still into the vintage stuff they played with when they were kids(like me) and I somewhat frequently see people with questions about vintage RC's, because they got one off of ebay or something and are new to the RC thing. Come on people VOTE YES!!!!

It would also help site traffic.. People googling "Vintage radio control cars" will pick up on RCU if they had a dedicated vintage section full of the word vintage.

I really like the older stuff. A vintage section would be a great improvement.
