Hey guys, most of you have seen the recent thread posted with the Skygate Viperjet I have been painting. From that thread I have received a fair bit of interest in the painting of jets. Well, our shop is changing our focus from car restoration to much more custom paint work. As a result, I would love to be doing more RC Jets. Prices are really much more reasonable than most have though, in fact, of all the PM's I received regarding pricing of the Viperjet, everyone has commented that the cost is much lower than they were expecting.
While I am in Canada, my shop is only a 1/2 mile from the Washington border with a great shipping/receiving company right there. As a result, shipping can still be reasonable and done within the lower 48 states (or of course within Canada if that's where you live).
I have flown RC all my life including flying Pattern, I know that weight is always an issue on RC models, as a result great care is taken to avoid adding to much un-necessary weight in primers, paint and clear coats.
From wild sport finishes to scale finishes, anything you want done is possible. I use primarily PPG paint with some House of Kolor and SEM products used where needed, have a complete PPG Concept system as well as PPG Omni system in house so color matches are not a problem.
Please PM or email me for inquiries/quotes. Turn around times are generally good, you will be quoted a turn around time along with your price quote. Times are based on the workload of the shop.
Here are some examples of models I've painted...
Super Bandit

Kingcat

Viperjet

Spectre

Gripen

Tamjets super hornet

Eurosport

A P51 Mustang (I know, it's not a jet)

F3D pylon racer

Jeremy, it would be helpful if you would provide pricing one one of the above models, just to give the general public a baseline. IE if I wanted the paintjob on the above bandit, on a bandit, how much would that cost.
Then we could surmise that the Kingcat might be a tiny bit more cause of the checkerboarding and size???
I don't know if that's possible or not, but if it is, it would be helpful.

Hi Sean,
I'm not sure if posting prices is allowed, but I see what you're saying, so I'll give some rough pricing and if it's not allowed I'm sure the moderators will remove it.
The bandit paint job would run in around $2500, the Kingcat paintjob is actually much less labor intensive, it would be around $1700. The Viperjet has a lot of detail, masking and otherwise, that would be around $3500.
The amount of detail and such definitely affects the price, as does the size/complexity of the airplane. Something with all skin hinges is much easier to paint than individually hinged surfaces etc.
Hope that helps somewhat

I think anyone is allowed to advertise something once a month, can't imagine why that would not include pricing.
Thanks for the information, I think that will help guys make a decision.
Can't wait to hear from the jack A$ that thinks $2k is way too much for a paint job [X(] Hope this statement prevents that.

I have personally seen the Bandit, KingCat and Viper paint jobs and can only say that the workmanship is stunning. Not only is the airbrush work outstanding but the quality of the finishes Jeremy produces are the best I personally have ever witnessed.
Jeremy has never painted a jet or anything else for me, I just enjoy stopping by his shop to BS about jets and admire his work. Allways something interesting going on there.
Please feel free to P.M. me for a reference.

Please quote repair and painting of a Yellow Aircraft Starfire shown in the attached picture. The plane is currently flying but needs filling, sanding, and painting. It has alot of battle scars. Can take and send more pictures if you need them for quoting. I am in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Thanks,
Terry

The true flames are Sick with the Skulls blended into um. what a lot of people do not understand when you tell them a 2k or 3k paint job is the amount that actually goes into the price of the paint. I needed two colors for touch up and it was 180.oo smackers just for the two pints.
then there is the hardener , and the flex additive ( if being used) then there is the labor that goes into the prep before you even get to paint..... Jobs look great.

You nailed it! The cost of materials is ridiculous, not only for the paints, but the polishes, polishing pads, and the equipment you need to do the work. While it's true that you can get a nice paint job using a cheapo gun from Harbor Freight or something, you can achieve better, lighter results using a gun that atomizes the paint more evenly and allows it to flow, it's the difference between a $50 gun and a $500 gun.
I am able to save some money on a paint job because I stock the full line of PPG omni and PPG Concept (DBC) paints. I have my own full mixing systems with all tints so if I only need a half pint of a color then I only mix a half pint.
When you start doing things like the true flames, you can drop $200 just on the Kandy concentrates and mixing clear.
If you have to buy all the materials up front, a paint finish like my Super Bandit will cost you around $1000 just in materials between primer, base, Kandy's, clear etc. If I was to replicate that paint finish for somebody, because I don't have to buy specific amounts from the paint shop, it ends up costing about $250 in materials to the customer.
I have around $60,000 tied up in paints and tints right now!
When you're dropping 6K + on a jet, 2 or 3K for paint isn't so out of this world

Your work is stunning. Especially the Super Bandit. .
Having painted a few models in my time, I know that when the build is complete, thats when the hard work really starts. Finishing a model is a great source of sarisfaction for me, as an amature, however what you can do is on another level altogether. I am jelous.
Paying $2-3k for that kind of finish I think is more then fair. After all you are getting get a real piece of art. It takes skill and a considerable investment in tools and materials.
(How much will it upset you the first time a wing tip scrapes).
