Default New rigger

I just built this rigger for my brother and want it to be pretty fast, hopefully around 40mph. It's 16" long and I want to run 3 cell LiPo. I kind of figured one of these motors would be good for it. What do you think? Which one?

A 380 10L would be a better wind and allow for more prop choices. The "S" short cans are pretty high for 3S lipo.

You would want to shoot for about 30,000-35,000 rpm... (best guess...) and with 11.1V x 3695kv, thats about 40,000rpm [X(][X(][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

2800KV x 11.1 is more like it.

Of course you could use just 2S instead??? Nice price on those motors, I might like one since I have that same/similar, rigger laser cut but, not built yet...

If you go with one of these it needs to be the low kv model, the 3,695. Or look into one with about 2700-3300.

Hi jdoug,

My Renegade Rigger uses a 2600kv outrunner motor with a Castle Creations Phoenix 25 ESC and a 3S 1320...IT FLIES!! It is 14.5 ounces ready to run...

The guys here have good suggestions for you. Around 2800kv (10L) would be a good choice!!

What type of ESC and batts are you planning to use?

Cool rigger...what kind is it?

I think I will go with the long can 10L. I'm not sure what prop to start with. I have a modded 28mm and an X427 for my hydromite with a 380S I could start with, but the L motor should be able to push something a little bigger, huh?

Not sure on the ESC. I was thinking this one...

What kind of current draw should I be seeing with the 380 10L and say a 30mm prop? ...and will the 35A controller support it?

I'm using an octura plastic 531Y prop on my little rigger. The x632 detounged is the speed prop though...you might be able to start with those (x632 being my guess).

I think if your going to use the 10L, you might want to go with something a little bigger than the 35 amp ESC. I have an ETTI Navy 70 that i'm planning on using with a Feigao 380 8L. You could go with something like that or 100-150 amp ESC...that would put you on the safe side of things!

In my Renegade I run a micro servo, more than enough to get teh job done.

Thanks guys! It might be a while before I get it wet because seems that Offshore Electrics is OUT of just about everything I need to build this thing up. That sucks!

With a strut depth of about 1/2in. on this rigger, would a 2" rudder be sufficient in length? It would be just over an inch past the bottom of the strut into the water. Do you think I should go with bigger or would it be good? The boat is 16" overall.
