ESC as a Nav Light Switch

I was told that a simple brushed ESC could be used as a switch for operating Nav lights on a plane in place of a pico switch or a mechanical switch. I have purchased a set of these nav lights, and would love your help in figuring out how to wire this up.

I was thinking of a small cheap ESC like this one.

Would this work, or is it more trouble than it is worth.

Yep, I just went out to the shop to verify it.
Hooked the esc's rx lead in channel for landing gear.
Connected esc to a motor and to a pack.
Flipped the landing gear switch and full throttle motor on, flip switch off and motor shuts off.
Finally got a use for all those old brushed esc's now. Cool, beats the old servo operated switch.

Glacier Girl, Thanks for experimenting to verify this. Do you want to try one more experiment?
I am not sure about this, but in doing some research since my original post I read that if you wanted to power the lights from a seperate power source, you the could connect the battery directly to the lighting system or ESC, and just remove the power(red) wire from the ESC receiver lead to isolate the two power sources. Can any one confirm this???
On a side note: I grew up about an hour from Middlesboro KY where they restored and kept the Glacier Girl for several years. One saturday I drug my wife to see her at the airport, and all I can say is that she is spectacular. Icannot imagine the thrill of flying in her.
