this thing does very good in 3d and high alfa I still have a bit of wing rock upright but working on it. i will put the cowl on it soon. it is 55.5 ounces with no gas. I have a four ounce tank in it. it will hover and pull out but not the best but that could be in the prop too. it does about 40mph max in fwd flight lol but doesnt need to go fast. i will have our local 3D expert fly it soon and get his thought on it.
I have been looking at other engine options and any of the LA 40-46 type engines will have a bit more power for only an ounce or two more weight. this is with the jett in cowl muffler. I am running 35% in it now. i will mess with props soon. need to find some good light weight props for it.

Airraptor, Good grief, I did'nt know this forum existed and low and behold your doing what I started to do this week. My AJ always seemed a little underpower with an E-Flite .25 in it . I am currently making a move to glow this plane and thought I was nutty until I found this Thread.! I'm taking steps now to seal all the exposed wood that might get fuel soaked. Also I have only one small Saito NIB .65 that might be overkill and no 2stroke engines small enough.
Please refresh my memory....750 watts = 1/2 horsepower. ? so the right glow engine for this plane should be .49 2str. ???
I'll subscribe to this and follow along. Good Luck.

750 watts is about 1 hp.
I believe that E-flight .25 indicates that it is designed for an electric engine with a power similar to a 2 stroke glow .25.
For conversions I just go by the wing size and the weight they state on electric stuff. Glow usually comes out lighter...

746 watts = 1 HP
My AJ with the Eflight power 25 flew stronger than the Saito 40 not much but more. I also flew it with a 4 cell 3200 Lipo which had close 650 watts if i remember on a 14x4 APC cut down to 14"
I am looking at getting a Extreme flight extra 48" wing i think. 500 sq with about 8 ounces less than the my AJ. Mine has been crashed several times. 15 feet high in hover and speed control cuts out is good. had this happen several times with a castle 45 amp. What i learned is speed controls get hotter at mid throttle settings.
I have the eflight Leader below with a Saito 40 also. I have one more Saito 40 brand new for the EF Extra.

It sounds like the Saito 40 is a good fit. The Evolution .46 I had was a very reliable engine and would have torn up the sky in the AJ. Well thats History. Its either buy another charger to handle 6S lipos ( @ $160.) and the batteries $80 bucks and-up or go GLOW .

you want to keep it light. This plane will not handle a evo 46 let alone that saito 65
the Saito is 10 ounces and only uses a 4 ounce tank for 4-6 min 3d flight
the evo is 18 ounces and will need a 7-8 ounce tank and alot of reinforcement on the plane
the 65 is 19 ounces and requires the same fuel tank and even more strength.
saito 40 is the best only real option out there for this type and size plane.
