Default Subscribing?????

OK, I assume that SUBSCRIBING means that IF I click on that, and I'm in say the HELICOPTERS FOR SALE area, I will then be sent EVERY POST made to that WHOLE area???

But it doesn't do that??? I've clicked subscribe at least a dozen times and I do not get EVERY post made to that area???

AM I MISSING SOMETHING???

Kirk,

Subscribing to a forum will put that forum into your MyRCU area but will not send a notice with every post made to it...that could generate quite a bit of email

What you can do is subscribe to any individual thread and on those you will receive emails when new posts are made to it. When in the thread you can click the subscribe to thread link and your all set. Also if you post to a thread check the email notification check box and you will be subscribed. Once done in the threadview you will see a little "S" icon indicating you are now subscribed to that thread.

Hope this answers your question...lmk..

It sure does!! but why not offer this as an OPTION??? I'm sure with all the bell and whistles that this BB has, it surly must be an option???

PLUS on other Board's that I go to (NOT RC BOARD), they have this option???

MOST of them have a BIG LETTER WARNING: By checking this box, you could generate hundreds of email's a day, WE DO NOT RECCOMEND you do this, but if you want to, it's OK.

JUST a thought.

well...we could do it but here are the pitfalls...it involves some ugly math...

a board this size with 1500+ posts per day...50 forums...say each forum averages 30 posts per day (some much less and some more of course but for this example the numbers work). Now take 1/3 of the users subscribing to 4 forums average. you have 2500 subscribers times 4 forums each or 10,000 subscriptions. Now when there is a new post say 30 per forum which fires off an email for each new thread/post and you have 300,000 emails. Now increase the numbers I used along with the growing post count and userbase and we would need several dedicated email servers just to send out the notices at the rate of 3.4 email per second or more...

With all that said I never rule anything out

OH WELL, it was that thought!! And the thought was directed to MOSTLY the For Sale area. MY thinking was that I wanted it MOSTLY there.

I'll be working on this somehow...looking into some very robust mail server apps recently for just such a thing...could take a bit but I know it can be done. It would also be for all forums as once done might as well...
