RE: MRC Super Brain 989
You can send in the power supply and I'll replace it for you. What type of battery are you charging and what settings are you using?

RE: MRC Super Brain 989
Thank you Tim Sandor
but if I send the power supply its will cost me from 15 to 30$ ďŚ to chip it to you and to take it back because I live in Kuwait and I have mill box in aramex
the settings for 989
battery elactrifly 3000mah 7 cell
type nimh--cell7--mah3000—amp3.00--6mv--temp130--trickle0.50
battery 4.4k 4400mah 6cell
type nimh—cell6—mah4400--amp4.00--7mv--temp130--trickle0.50
note: I thenk the 989 make battery hot because its charge the battery with Continuous amp there is no Cool-Off Time Delay
but the Triton2 have Safety features include cool-off time delay ďŚ
I sell my triton2 to my friend and I buy mrc 989
best regard

Wow, you're in Kuwait. Your profile says Springfield Gardens, NY. Try cutting the mv setting down to 5 mv for both batteries. This coud be why they get hot. What capacity are the charging up to?

I guess I'm not understanding what it is you'd like to do with it. If perhaps you'd like it to shut off right at 3800 then a capacity setting of 4256 could be used.
The capacity cut-off is merely a "safety stop" or a "backup" and should not be used normally. The peak detection (mv value) is what is normal for stopping charge. It is set as a "per cell" value so set it to 5 mv.
ps I happened to be chargeing a 6 x 3800 nimh and the stop code is C.2 when the capacity stop has been reached. Your particular battery might just hold more than 3800 mah and if so it is a good one.

I understand that the 989 needs a balancer for charging lipos. It did not come with one. Where is the best place to pick this up. I haven not used Lipos yet but plan on making the switch this year.

RE: MRC Super Brain 989
Since balancers and lipos are universal , then nearly any balancer will work as long as it has the correct connection and specs.
If you are going to plug it into the output of the 989 it is an easy job because the green connector can simply take bare wires. Match the output of the balancer to your specific battery and connection.

I've used the Equinox, Blinky, and the V-Balancer all with good results with the 989. But best bet would be to match the connector as guver has said.

Thanks guys. I haven't selected the lipos that I'm going to get so I was just doing the front end work. Guver, you seem to enjoy the charging more than the discharging

RE: MRC Super Brain 989
Great charger, not seen many others in the uk. While charging my lipo's last week, I found the green connector had become very hot, and when i checked the wires, they both snapped off due to the heat. I am struggling to repair it as I need a new connector, any ideas.

RE: MRC Super Brain 989
My idea has been to install a pair of female banana jacks like all my other chargers have. OR to solder a lead direct and just have a single or double lead coming out the side. I haven't ruined the green connector yet though , so it stays.

What size LiPos are charging? You may be able to find a replacement plug at a good electronics supply company in the UK. You can try unsoldering the receptical for the green plug and then hard wiring a Deans (or other) plug to the board with 12-14 gauge wire.

I'm charging Orion 4800 2 cell lipo's. Would it not be better to see if I can get some replacement plugs, before I perform surgery on my charger. I'll try the Deans connector if all else fais. Thx

It would definitely be better to get a replacement plug if possible. Let me know if you have problems finding one and I'll see about sending one to you.

The holes are kind of close together for the pins on that recepticle, so soldering any wire to the board at that point would be difficult.

RE: MRC Super Brain 989
tim@MRC, why did you guys use that ugly green plug for? this is a great charger but why isent the output a regular female banana plug just like the rest of the chargers? I just bought this charger now I need to figure out whether or not I should hard wire another connecter or find more green plugs.
thank you.

Sorry for the delay, I was away on business again last week. The green output plug wasn’t my decision. Hopefully the next charger will have banana jacks.
