Default Dji Phantom 2 Compass Calibration

After not being able to find a video on it I made a new video today on the most important part of flying the Phantom.... Compass calibration. It is really simple compared to the Blade 350QX, so easy in fact that I usually do a compass calibration every time I go out flying. According to Dji a skewed un calibrated compass is the number one reason for fly always right up there with interference.

the blade 350 compass calibration might of been easier if the video tutorial had of been done from a first person perspective. lol

you say (interference) did DJI say what sort. as most of the blade 350qx fly aways are very strange/funny. it looks like the quad had just decided to fly off land in another place.

Calibrated IMU, compass, 8 satellites, no cell phone towers or high power lines. Mine still flew away!

Good luck, I hate to hear about any flyaway. I enjoyed mine so much before it happened. If it does go by by, and I hope it doesn't , don't gripe about it to DJI or the forums, you will be bashed and criticized like I was for trying to make them aware there is a problem. I was told I didn't know what I was doing. 35 years of flying, so it was kind of amusing! I have thick skin so I really don't care. Got an Align 690 on the way, hope to have better luck with it! Happy Flying!

Which version of the Phantom did you own? I've heard that some have known issues and some don't. I've also heard that most of them that have fly aways have been upgraded to newer FW.

I've had the Vision Plus, which had issues, sent it back and got a Phantom 2 with Zenmuse, it flew great. Sold it to do a 650mm DIY build with Naza V2 to carry a bigger camera. 35 perfect flights with lastest firmware and it decided to go by by one evening. Never found it.

I have read people having issues with the V2. I fly 3 Naza Lite M units without any incidents. One thing I've heard more than a few times is to never upgrade the firmware.

Yep, I upgraded, calibrated transmitter and compass by the book. Lost $3000 worth of equipment, DJI offered me 20% off an S900. Would have cost me another 3 grand to get back to where I was. Got an Align 690 on pre-order, hope their FC is better!

I got to enjoy mine for a little longer than that! Thought about building another DIY with XAircraft FC till I saw the Align 690, hope the FC is good. I'm gonna test the crap out of it before I hang a $1300 gimbal and a $2000 camera on it!

It "was" the 3D Flying X8 350 class quadcopter. It flew great when I first got it but decayed with each flight. The plastic is crappy, the electronics are counterfeit, and the whole thing finally destroyed itself.

The video you posted shows the guy turning on the downlink. The downlink isn't necessary to calibrate the compass. Most quadcopters have a 2.4 ghz controller and a 5.8ghz downlink. The video you posted depicts a Phantom "vision" 2 which is reversed frequency wise. This is why I'm not a big phantom fan. Too many variations now and could really hurt a beginner.
The Phantom 2 is not the same as the Phantom Vision 2. What worries me is that someone could possibly confuse the two and have a radio problem, get a new radio and have it be the wrong frequency because he ordered the Phantom 2 tx when in reality he has the Vision 2.
