We want to get as much racing in as possible. One thing you will never hear from our racers is they didn't get enough track time. But this doesn't happen magically. It's coordinated effort using an approach of people, process and technology.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
1) Get a gmail account. We will email you a link and grant you access to our proprietary cloud software. When you first open the link on your smartphone it will check to see if you have Google sheets app. If not, it will request access to download it.
2) You need to change to at least 3 frequencies in the field. Don't worry about which ones. Just make sure you can change quickly. We hand out quick references at the field. But if you are using dips, bring a thin tool to change the switches. Practice changing frequencies at home.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
For the Exhibition Season, we will slowly ramp up the "pre-grid" time as racers acclimate to the process. We use Line of Sight Spotters while the FPV racers are flying. We have proprietary software that tells everyone everything they need to know; what race they are in, when they will go, what points they earned and most importantly what frequency they will fly on.
-------PRE RACE ------------------
Step 1) Check in
The race director will ask you for your gmail account and will grant you access to our system. Make sure you have google sheets installed on your smart phone. If you have never used gmail or google drive, this process can take up to 30 minutes as we educate you. If you are an experienced smart phone person who has used sheets before, then it takes 5 mins. So, if you are a first timer, get there early and assume that there will be a line of first timers.
You will be added real-time to the roster and assigned a pilot number and a frequency. You will get a frequency tag that clips on to your tx. You will sit next to others with the same frequency during practice so you can coordinate taking turns.
Step 2) Tech Inspection
For this season, not much will happen as you can fly what you got. But during the summer and fall season, your machine is tech'd for compliance.
Step 3) Course Set
The Competition Director will lead this effort. After tech, you join in the efforts of course setup. People who miss the setup are the ones who tear down.
Step 5) Practice
40 minutes should get you 4 practice flights. There are no practice heats. Coordinate with people on your frequency. If you crash, shout out where you are heading. "On the field, slalom".
Step 6) Pilot Meeting
Course is cleared and all the heats/rounds/frequencies are clarified.
---------- THE RACE ------------
Step 7) Pre-Grid
The Race Director will sound an air horn and announce "4 minutes to race". He will count it down every minute. The next heat pilots will serve as Line of Sight Spotters which serves as a pre-grid for the next race. As everyone gets into the flow, we will eventually get to 2 minute pre-grids. Your smart phone will keep you informed real-time of who/what/where.
Step 8) Race Start
Race Director will announce "Racer 1 Ready". He will go through all the pilot numbers in the heat. If you have an issue you will be given a reasonable time to fix it (30 seconds). After that, the race starts. The director will announce "Let's Light It up. 5 4 3 2 1 go!" then the Air Horn starts the race.
Step 9) During the Race - PILOT
If you flip on the start and have not crossed the finish line, your spotter can run out and flip it back over one time. If you crash after passing through the start you get a DNF (did not finish) and wait until the race is over to retrieve your craft. You have to clear the course within 2 minutes. We will have an orange cone that you can mark your crash area so you can look for parts after the round. But the course must be clear after 2 minutes. Failure to obey the Race Director means you miss the next round.
Step 10) Missed Obstacle
Sometimes a racer will miss an obstacle. The racer declares "miss". If he doesn't, the spotter will shout out "miss pilot 1". No deviations from the course (like a missed obstacle) are allowed. You miss a turn you go back.
Step 11) During the Race - SPOTTER
AMA rules dictate a LOS spotter during any FPV flying. The spotter does 5 things
a) alerts the racers of dangerous on-course conditions (aka dog walker)
b) counts the laps and notifies the racer of the final lap
c) marshals course compliance
d) notifies the racer how much lead he has. So in essence, the spotter serves as a rear view mirror. The racer says "lead" the spotter replies "20 feet". Conversation is kept to a minimum.
e) notifies the Race Director when pilot finishes the race. "Finish Pilot 5".
----------- COMPLETION -----------
Step 12) End of a Heat (race)
Spotter / Racers will announce any DQ's for course deviations. The Race director will announce the "Results Round 2 Heat 3: First Pilot 6 - John, Second Pilot 3 Tom" etc. He will enter them and they will be available real time. He will then announce "4 minutes to grid".
Step 13) End of a Round
There will be a short break (5 minutes) to allow those that need to change frequencies, do repair or charge batteries. We fly multiple points rounds.
Step 14) End of a Competition
Comments by Race Director. Points are tabulated. Winner is announced and prizes are awards. The course is torn down and loaded into car. Party ensues.
