Hello.
Just bought a 7.5 ccm glow engine. The finish and looks of this engine is very nice. But to the point: I started the run in with a rich mixture, and fast idle. Then i read your "tapered bore engines run in". Sigh, i should have read first i guess.
The engine have one tank trough it as of now. It still pinches and conrodplay feels ok, so i dont think theres any damage done. It did however get very hot compared vith other engines i own. High idle was about 105 deg. cel. and full throttle was up to 180......only had full open for a short time...lol. The heat was only on the top of the engine. Bottom (crankhouse) of engine was only about 30 deg. cel.
I run on Tornado fuel 1% nitro with a 11x6 GF 3 Series Master airscrew prop.
Muffler is the 40 quiet.
So now i would like to know:
Can i use castor with my fuel to get oil % up to 25% for a "new" run in?
Is my fuel ok for these engines after run in?
Best regards

John,
Since you have selected to buy an MVVS engine, I think you trust that one tank, even as you ran it, will not cause any damage and it is not too late to redo the break-in properly.
Do mix some 500-700 cc of fuel with 25% oil, at least half must be castor.
I am not sure what Tornado fuel contains as a lubricant.
If it is lacking in castor oil, so less than 10% of the total fuel volume is castor, I would suggest starting from another fuel formulation.
If you have Model Technics Duraglow 0, or 5 fuel, which is produced with 6% castor oil and 9% EDL synthetic, you can add 5.5% castor oil (11% for the break-in formula), so you will have a fuel with 20% oil (25% for break-in), with castor oil comprising over half of the lubricant.
If you have Morgan Omega (5.1% castor, 11.9% synthetic), add 7% castor (12.5% for break-in).
With the formulation of the Tornado, use your mind to calculate and achieve the proper results.
I would not recommend starting with any fuel which has negligible amounts, or no castor oil at all (Morgan 'Cruel Power', for instance).
The break-in thread is [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1850473/tm.htm]here[/link] for your convenience.

Hello.
Thanks for your fast reply.
I too, dont know what oil tornado contains (but i just wrote an email to them asking about it).
Depending on their answer i will either add castor to their fuel or i will mix my own fuel.
Im sure i'll be very happy with the engine. Thx.
Best regards

I found the 1% Tornado fuel with 5% added castor a very good mix, and achieved good results with it. In fact it is the only oil mix available here that prooved it's money worth in MVVS engines. Just add 10% castor for running in to one liter of fuel, and run that the first two 250cc tanks. Then taper off the amount of oil added to 5% by adding Tornado with 5% extra oil to your running in mix as it gets depleted.
This worked for me in 2.5, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.6 engines and I am confident it will work for your .45 as well.
Different counties have different oils available. please do post the answers from Tornado when/if you get them.
