Default 35cc muffler talk,,,

mmmm Fridy, not the best day to ask questions, everyone flies on the week end LOL..

so Pe, if you remember, on my MVVS 35cc gasser I have the inverted Bisson side muffler (see link)

http://www.bissonmufflers.com/en/muf...ting_id=114566

I have found that even 200 or 300 RPMs will make a noticeably different's on my Gee Bee Y's performance,,

so what muffler (non-tuned pipe) will give me the most power/highest top RPMs ??

"I don't care what brand it is"

thanks !!

You already know the answer.
Only canisters and tuned pipes give good power.

Jim,

Canister mufflers... Some really are just muffler, but others, like the MVVS #3004, are 'Helmholz resonators'.

They are tuned devices that increase power within a pretty wide RPM range.

The best power for your 35 cc engine is achieved with the #3269 tuned-pipe.

yes I know/understand a true tuned pipe will give the most power increase, I was thinking of getting the 3268, but (as I said) I have found that just an increase of 300 RPMs make a noticeable difference in how my plane pulls off the ground and in top speed,, so if I could find a one-piece bolt on muffler that would give me an increase of 500 RPMs that would get my motor up to 7700 with the 3W 20x8,, that would be quite significant..

Jim,

This engine with the #3271 'Pitts style' muffler, should show about 7,300-7,400 RPM, on a Mejzlik 20x8 two-blade prop.

I think 7,700 RPM on that 3W is out of your reach on this muffler, but it would easily exceed 8,000 on the pipe...

thanks for the info !!

shoo, 8000 would probably make my plane a 110 to 120 MPH plane, shoo,,

the 3271 Pitts style muffler would only give me about 100 RPMs over my inverted side muffler, so I wouldn't go with that..

I have read about tuned pipes, and because I have a very large cowl and my friend is a master welder I thought I would/could add an extension to my muffler, much like a header pipe, this should give me a few hundred RPMs and still keep the muffler inside the cowl..

Unless you know what you are doing, you are in for a lot of fun. Mind you, not a lot of power, unless you stike a lucky vein.
