How thick were the walls of the tube?

I've thrown my CMP 50CC Edge around quite hard with the stock tube w/o problems... so I'm curious.

The 330L has a bigger wingspan and probably exerts a higher lever moment against the tube than mine, but the tube should certainly NOT break... ( it should bend first... ).

It sounds like you received a bad tube.

PM John here with this too.

How about posting a picture with a ruler right up against the edge of the tubing?

It should have been about 1/16" thick.

I can confirm craig's experience. The wing tube is a composite material although not sure exactly what. It is paper thin. I assumed that the supplied tube was able to withstand the loads since it was supplied by the manufacturer even though it did not seem right. The tube snapped just after making a gentle turn after take-off. Destroyed the Zenoah engine. Salvaged rest of the electronics.

The airframe is constructed well. Lots of room to put equipment. Just make sure to replace the wing tube with an aluminum tube.

Someone else also suggested inserting a strengthening dowel inside the existing tube. Apparently they used dowel stock purchased at a local hardware store.

It may add a little weight but the safety factor improves.

If you thought it was not right to go with that plane then you should have made changes..when you buy the cheapest plane available,be ready to use some skills to evaluate and adopt the airframe as necessary.
Its how it is these days. You wanna safe a $ you will pay somewhere else..
With experience you can overcome and correct these problems easily.

Yes to an extent that is certainly true, although you can do well if you know what you are doing....

The less expensive planes do require a bit more TLC and going over, but they still fly well and will hold up if properly constructed.

On the other hand I've purchased more expensive planes and have found them needing the same going over and also requiring a good going over.
