I just purchased the phantom f4 about a weak ago. At first I was having a problem nothing worked when I plugged the battery in. I had throttle down and trim all the way down. But I figured out the problem, the manufacter had wires plugged in wrong. I switched them and now everything is ok. I waited about a week before I took her out because of bad weather. But today when I took it out and was doing a signal check I could only get about 20 feet before it would start loosing signal.(so I didn't fly her Sad) Do i have a bad radio/receiver? I have the antenna coming to the back then I have it go up the vertical stab.
Please can you guys help me out? I want to fly it!

You may want to pull the crystal on both the RX and TX then immediately re-install the respective crystals.
I and others have found that the crystal "feet" get a bit of a patina on the metal that prevents good contact and causes the RX or TX to momentarily stop transmitting or receiving or produce less than good results.
That said, I have a lot of these EDF's from Nitro now, so I purchased a Polk Trakker III TX to handle ALL of them ( 99 model memories! Shift selectable TX with Expo and computer controlled mixes for $140.00 ).

Ok guys do you think this is the Tx and Rx? I have taken the crystals out and cleaned them! Here is a video of it.

First check the fan and make sure it spins freely.
Hold the plane firmly in your hand and move the throttle with the other.
Does the fan run at all throttle settings this way?
Also did you "calibrate" the throttle?
e.g. turn on the TX, and move the throttle all the way up.
While holding the plane, plug the battery in quickly and bring the throttle all the way down.
It may be that your ESC has lost throttle calibration.
To isolate the problem and find out if it is the receiver, move the throttle to another channel temporarily... say the elevator BUT BE SURE that you secure the elevator all the way down and hold on to the plane when you plug it in, so it doesn't take off on you!
See if it works normally this way.
Insufficient current from the battery can also cause the ESC to cut power just as you are experiencing.
Is the battery balanced and fully charged?
Have you tried a different battery?

Yeap I just replace the Tx and Rx with good stuff. I have the JetTiger and it was the same way. Was flying with some other guys and was shot down by a Futaba radio that guy next to me switch on, lucky for me I was on final bout two off thr ground rolled it over and blew off the nose section {THIS REMINDED ME OF THE E-FLITE ELECTRAJET THAT I HAD SAME THING TOUCH THE NOSE ON THE GROUND AND BANG OFF COMES A CHUCK OF IT}. Anyway the ECS MOTOR and BATT Kick Butt fast and fun. The TX & RX that come with these planes I think the filters are sub par that they use in the Rx's But for the buck ya get a big bang I will stand behind them all day long, NP's got a good thing going here and I LOVE IT. And if ya dont belive me go check out Hobby-Lobby there on the same kick.
These Faom Jets ROCK and are here to stay I believe
Later Off to fly my JetTiger
