just finished the first gallon of 15% wildcat 80/20 castor sythetic. My question is reguarding maximum safe RPM for this engine. I've tried 11x7 MAS tached 13,500, MAS 11x8 Tached 9900, and a zinger 12x6 that tached 8800. if I used the 11x7 whats the maximum safe RPM? I know the engine has a usable range up to 13000 but how many people actually run it that high? I know no one flys a full throttle all the time as well. Should i be concerned about the Max RPM?
Thanks

Tony,
Yes I would be concerned about your max RPM. Whlie 13000 is the max usable RPM it is not an intended "regular performance" RPM. I personally do not ask my OS 4-strokes to exceed 10,000RPM ever if at all possible, and normally prop to be in the 9000-9500 range.

Ok! guess I'll stick with the 11x8 's and 12x6's. My only problem with the 11x8's is idle. I can't get it low enough, 2900 to 3100. yet with a 11x7 and the 12x6 it will idle down to the 2400 to 2700 range. I tried adjusting the low end too, ended up too lean and backfireing. Maybe after a second gallon it'll go lower.
