A friend of mine gave me an old Os FS 61 four stroke. It was sitting in his shed for many years. Looks brand new, runs well, but idle's horribly.
There is no detectable wear anywhere, and yep I've replaced the glowplug.
Is it possible to obtain a manual, or at least info on recomended prop sizes, valve clearence, needle settings etc.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mat

Hi, Matt! Yes, please see our site www.osengines.com for info on how to get manuals. I'd definitely start there for what your older engine needs. It may need to come in for service if you're unable to get it idling reasonably.

Hi AM cross, I have the same engine it was aquired in a trade. the engine runs well with the glow batt. installed, when it is removed it will die at idle. and runs considerably slower rpm's at high speed. I was told that it was worn out and letting two much fuel run through and putting out the fire (so to speak). is there any hope?? I have replaced the glow plug with an O.S. f type. It didnt make any diference. Also what engine replaced this engine and is it possible to upgrade this engine block to the replacement engine. It is great to have a way to communicate with reps. in a more relaxed setting other than at an office. Thanks, Dale

djoyner,
From the symptoms, it sounds like the compression may be shot. Unfortunately, there are no parts available from us or O.S. to effect repairs. You'd need at least a new piston ring and liner. Perhaps the valves aren't sealing, too.
O.S. replaced the FS-61 with the FS-70 Surpass, which has been replaced with the FS-70 Surpass II.
We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at this email address. (Please be sure to copy all previous emails into any future questions.)
