.46 ducted fan engine
I have a .46 ducted fan engine, I bought it NIB from the original owner, and wound like to run a prop on it. Is this ok and what kind of RPM should I turn with it? Got any prop suggestions? I would be running powermaster YS 20/20 with an additional 3oz of castor. I run some Nelsons on Quicke 500s, but I thought I would put this one in a Shrike or Diamond Dust for some fun.
Thanks,
Dan

RE: .46 ducted fan engine
A ducted-fan engine is intended for high-RPM operation with a tuned pipe. Likely, you'd want to prop it for aournd 14,000 RPM, since fan use would have it run well over 20K RPM. It's a racing engine, and will likely not have a particularly-low idle RPM. We'd suggest a fuel with 22%+ oil content, with a significant portion being castor oil.
We don't have a specific prop to recommend, but we'd suggest that you take an 11 x 5 prop and cut it down to 10 inches to start. With the high RPM the engine's capable of, you want a prop with a very substantial hub.
Prop the engine for around 14K and you should be OK.
