Default FX 46: Liner lost its coating

I need help[] The liner of my FX 46 lost its coating all around the top but the piston looks fine. There are no scratches in the liner. Only the coating is missing partly. Should I change the liner or could I still use the engine? What could be the reason for problem? At the last flight the engine ran well. During the "spring-check" I removed the tune pipe of the engine and "inspected" the liner through the exhaust port. I couldn´t belive it....

Default RE: FX 46: Liner lost its coating

O.S. Max .46 FX engines made after 1998 or so had the new ABL liner plating system. The engines with the ABL system usually will lose plating only if they have been run with too little oil, or grossly overheated. There were difficulties with the .46 FX engine previous to that with the old plating system.

You would have to discuss resolution with your regional O.S. service center.

You will need at least a new piston/cylinder assembly.
