OS Max .61 SF (Ringed)
I have an older OS MAX .61 SF ringed engine & no instruction manual. The Carb is a bit different from those that I am used to. Need to confirm that the idle mixture screw is acually on the same side as the high speed needle. The screw I'm speaking of is a small flat-head, and looks like it is in the jaws of a mimi open-end wrench. (obviously it is not, just trying my best to describe it) Also, there is a rearward facing screw just behind the throttle lever, about 90 degrees from the idle stop adjustment. What does that do?
This engine was stored for about 15 years (give or take a few) and was still NIB. I ran 3 tanks through it for break in & it runs great. Just need to tweak the low-end setting & want to make sue I turn the right screw.
On this engine, the "normal" spot for an idle mixture screw appears to be occupied by a black phillips head that acctually holds the throttle arm on. I think.
One last (minor) question...while running (very rich setting), oil seeps from the muffler-to-engine mounting area. Should I put a gasket there? Would it hurt to?

The small flat-head screw in the metal yoke is your idle mixture adjustment. It turns from 9:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock. 12:00 o'clock is the starting position. Turn clockwise to lean. Make very small adjustments.
The hex screw on the back of the carb holds the rotor in place. The screw in the center of the throttle arm just holds the arm onto the rotor.
Some leakage between the exhaust stack and muffler is normal. Adding a gasket just adds a cushion that the muffler can flex on and move about. That breaks the muffler bolts. The best thing do do is ignore it. Won't hurt a thing.

What will one of these engines go for new in the box?

You need to check the RCU Marketplace or other online services. We are not a reseller of old engines. When new, the O.S. Max .61SF had a suggested retail price of $259.99. It was discounted from there.

Does anyone still carry parts for this particular engine? I know it's been discontinued. I own a couple and would like to rebuild them. I'm having trouble finding anything. Any leads would be GREAT NEWS!
Thanks

Offshore Trash,
About a year ago I was able to get some parts through Tower Hobbies, but I'm pretty sure that I "lucked out". Some of the parts I needed were listed on their website as "in stock-limited qty", some were "discontinued" and some were not listed at all...so I decided to call TH (instead of ordering online) and somehow the customer service rep pulled through for me...and found everything I needed laying around in the deepest, darkest corners of the warehouse...even the "discontinued" parts & the stuff not listed on the site.
I doubt that you will have the same luck a year+ later, but it might be worth a try...just sweet-talk the phone rep into digging around a little.
Good luck!

Most parts specific to the O.S. Max SF/RF series of engines are no longer available through regular retail channels, through us, or from O.S. in Japan. The engines went out of production in 1995 or so. You'll have to ask through the RCU Marketplace, an auction service, or one of the hobby retailers who 'scrounge' parts for engine collectors. Those retailers usually advertise in small ads in the model magazines.

RE: OS Max .61 SF (Ringed)
Thanks for the kind advise guy's!
I've spoken with Tower Hobbies...no luck there. I watch eBay pretty close. There's plenty of them out there for sale...and they're probably in pretty good shape but I can't see investing the $$ in the SF anylonger. I'm just not having any luck finding parts anymore. In my opinion, the SF was one of the most reliable engine's ever produced by O.S.... I've owned the one's I have for many, many years and it's just time to replace them I guess... Sure hate to see them disappear.[&o]
