Can someone explain to me how to start a 4 stroke without a starter. I always use a 12 inch piece of pvc pipe to start my 2 strokes. thannks

This is supposed to be a manufacturers support forum but you seem desperate for info so I'll tell you how I do it. (assuming that the engine is run in and tuned correctly).

I make sure the engine is primed then flick the propellor backwards about 1/2 a turn towards the compression - the glow plug will kick it into the right direction and it will run. On most of my properly tuned engines, I can just do this by flicking the spinner.

Otherwise They will also start in the same way that you start your 2 strokes with a chicken stick. - just make sure that you run the stick past the compression stroke or they may kick backwards (Same as a 2 stroke).

If your engine will not start, here is an FAQ to help you:

http://www.osengines.com/faq/faq-q727.html

4-stroke engines are started very much like 2-stroke engines. It's primed, the battery connected to the glow plug, the throttle cracked to just above idle, and the engine turned over. If you crank it by hand, briskly flipping the propeller backwards through compression usually works quite well. The engine will fire and run forwards.

The instructions that came with the engine will have starting instructions, too.
