We've been out of town the last week.

To convert your engine to use a recoil starter, you'll need a new crankshaft, a starter shaft, a new rear cover, and the recoil unit, itself. Here are the stock numbers and list prices of the parts you asked about:

OSMG4475 21252040 CRANKSHAFT CV-RX US$39.99
OSMG8970 21812200 START SHAFT .18CVRX US$12.99
OSMG8219 21421300 REAR ADAPTER 15CV-X US$11.99
OSMG8978 73003000 #5 RECOIL STRTR ASSY US$42.99

The crankshaft will have slightly-different tuning

These parts can be ordered through any hobby retailer who sells O.S. Max engines and accessories.

I have this same kind of engine installed in my HPI NITRO RS4SS for almost 2 years and still going strong with lots of compression. Also installed is a Racers Edge drill start where I use a cordless drill and it works and starts flawlessly.

Sometime last week I just bought from an on-line auction a Tamiya RotoStart originally intended for my Ofna Ravager that has an Ofna Torque Start backplate. Since I don't want to carry 2 sets of starters for the 2 Nitros I have, I wanted to know what is the suggested starting backplate can I use for the OS .15 CV-R ? I prefer to use the same starting wand the Tamiya have which is 8 mm hex. Tiger Drive size is small and I don't want to use that brand as well.

Any suggestions ?

O.S. Max has only one size of start shaft for their engines. The parts listed above are the only ones available. If you use one of the external electric starters, you use all the parts except the recoil unit. The start shaft has an 8 mm. diameter.
