I have a Max FP 40 engine that I can not get to idle. It will run midrange and high end very well. When I pull back to idle it will stay at midrange and then drop to idle and die out. No matter how I adjust the mixture screws nothing helps.
I would also like to find a manual if possible.
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
If your O.S. Max .40 FP has had a bunch of running on it, it may have a worn piston/cylinder fit. When the compression starts to go, the idle's the first thing to go bad.
If the engine's new, it may not have enough breakin time.
The manual for the .40 LA will have the same adjustment and breakin procedudres, and you can download it from:
http://www.osengines.com/manuals/index.html

You can't tell by looking at an engine how much time it's had. You can only determine if it's too worn to run properly.
If you send the engine to us for rebuild, the cost for us to replace the piston/cylinder assembly would be nearly the price of a new O.S. Max .40 LA. Here's the stock number and list price of the piston/cylinder assembly for your engine:
OSMG4901 23353010 CYL & PSTN 40FPABC $42.99
