Default OS 91 Surpass

Will the valve springs for a OS 91 Surpass II (Manufacturer's Stock Number 45960210) also work in an older OS 91 Surpass?

OS's web site lists Manufacturer's Stock Number 45960200 as the valve spring for the original 91 Surpass, so I don't know if they are the same or not.

Thanks in advance! ...Ken

You use these:

OSMG9241 45960210 VLV SPRNG FS70 91SII US$3.29

These parts can be ordered through any hobby retailer who sells O.S. Max engines and accessories.

Ken,

did the OS 45960210 valve spring work? I know the diameter is a tad bigger than the 45960200. Just curious.

This is an old thread, but I have an interest in it as well.  I recently rebuilt a 70 Surpass and it uses the 45960200 valve springs also.  I do have some of the 0210 type for the Surpass II, and I see the O.S. rep above says they fit, but this seems like a mistake.  The new springs not only are wider, but are shorter.  As they are wider, the stock retainers don't fit.  Does anyone know if they can be used with the new retainers?

BTW, first post on RCU!

Thanks,
Greg

Per O.S., here are the parts:

OSMG9241 45960210 VLV SPRNG FS70 91SII US$3.29
OSMG9245 45960310 VLV SPRN RET FS70 SII US$2.49

These parts can be ordered through any hobby retailer who sells O.S. Max engines and accessories.

I'm doing the same thing. Just to be clear, are you saying we need to get new retainers as well as the springs? Will the old collets work? Thanks!

If you have the retainers, you don't need new ones.

The newer springs are wider and shorter.  I test fitted a retainer and it didn't seem to be a match.  I think you need the new retainers (not sure about collets), but I'll have to check.

I have found a few 0200 springs here and there on the net, so I haven't needed to use the newer types.

If you're using the new-size springs, then the retainers will need to be changed, yes.
