Without a propeller, it can be difficult to turn the engine over. That's because you have little leverage to turn the crankshaft, and the compression can be considerable. Put a prop on it and it will turn over nicely.

You'll have to take it apart to check. Low compression is usually a problem. If the engine run well, though, from idle to top end, then don't worry about it. If you have a good idle, good top end, and good throttle response, then the compression is OK. Dry engines will always have a low compression feel. You need fuel in the engine because the oil helps seal it when you're turning the engine by hand.

thanks , is it true that these engines like high nitro? 15% . IS the straight needle better than the remote needle, for tunning?
as far as fuel flow.

The O.S. BGX-3500 will run well on 0%-15% nitro. 5%-10% is likely the best range. You can use either type of needle...the engine doesn't "care".
