So my fiancee and I are sitting here playing zombies on Black Ops and every few minutes either one of our two wireless controllers just shuts off. Batteries are brand new, the battery case is not loose and the springs are getting good contact. Has anybody else had this issue? Could there be something wrong with the sensor that reads the controllers? Is there any way to fix it myself? I am not a lamen with electronics, and I pride myself on being able to fix red rings of death and open tray errors but this is something new to me.

That's why You need a PS3
lol,
My guess is something blocking the sensor on the Xbox it's self, Maybe try cleaning it with a can of Co2?

Nothing is blockin them and I used compressed air and nothing. Im wondering if the sensor might be loose or defective somehow but I dont have the time to tear it apart and look closer right now. Damn holidays haha

Have you introduced a new or other sort of infrared, bluetooth, wireless device into the area recently?

I had the same problem with mine, it turned out to be a wireless router that also broadcast on the same channel as the controllers. Started happening the same day I picked up a wireless N linksys router. I just got into the routers settings and changed it to from channel 1 to channel 5, seemed to fix it. There is no sensor, the controllers have an RF radio in them which communicates with the consoles RF radio.
Edit: saw that ps3 comment... have fun once the battery in the controller goes bad. A friend of mine had to replace both his controllers after about 6 months because they wouldn't hold a charger longer than about an hour, and you cant replace the batteries.

Ahh,That would make sense! Now that i think of it, A friend of mine had the same issues with his router
6 months both controller batt's crapped out on him? Wow!..Could have been He didn't let them charge long enough and used them, Or charged them when they weren't fully dead..OR.. just bad luck..lol.. I've had My sixxas for over 2yrs and works fine, Holds charge for countless hours, Just got a Dualshock 3 a few months ago to, no issues.
But true, once the batt craps out Your buy a whole new controller!

I don't know what his charging habits are... but the rechargeable batteries in my xbox controller are a few years old and still perfectly fine, I just charge them whenever I feel like it.

I know its not the battery pack because weve even tried sitting them on the floor and, go figure, one or the other still randomly shuts off after only about thirty seconds or so. The router is the only thing I have in the vicinity and its been the exact same for several months now and this problem came out of nowhere. There are no other new wireless devices or anything else around. Ill try changing the router settings anyways tho and see if it helps, otherwise its time to operate....

What about your neighbors? Are you in an apartment or a house? If in an apartment, maybe ask your neighbors. If you're in a house and a decent distance from your neighbors, I don't know. [&o]

Ok so i have the Xbox apart and found one problem already, but im not sure what it is or how much it matters. I found a small thin bar that clips onto something (idk what, hence my problem) laying in the part of the circuit board right next to the tower that holds the sensor for the controllers. I have included pictures of both where it was laying and the clip itself. Ill be researching what is going wrong online but in the meantime Ill leave these pictures up here in hopes someone can help me. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Then what exactly is the little tower I show in the picture? It has a sensor eye and three solder points connected to the board. If I had a better quality camera i could show you better, but....

I remember not to long ago i stayed up til 5:00 in the morning and had the door closed where i store (accident)... I was in the middle of an online game that i was tearing it up in, when all of the sudden my 360 shuts off and then everything else in my basement. I sat there for a while thinking OMG what happened... Thats when all the power came back on even things that werent turned on when it shut off. Of course the ROD appears and i just went crazy with WORDS... I went up to my 360 and unplugged everything, oped the door where it was sitting and melted the hair on my face. I thought i had just ruined my 360, the brand new 62" Plasma tv and my $3000 surround sound system. Luckily next morning i went down stairs to see if i still did work, since i was to scared to that night... And what do you know the ROD was gone and everything worked

freakin luckily...

freakin luckily...
