would not own a Mercedes even if driving one cured me of testicular cancer! (which i dont have)

if you can fix one be my guest, parts will still kill you, if you get someone to fix it (if you can find someone who will fix it) it will cost you TONS.

trust me on this, seen MANY mercades needing $3500 in suspension work alone at 75K miles.

if you must go the european luxury rout, you are much better off with a BMW (which i still dont like)

2 owners and almost $17k is a bit much for a car in my book.

Then again I am not out to impress anybody so I drive cheap cars until the last drive is to the junk yard.

Make sure that you have a good place that can work on these cars.. do some ground work ahead of time.. to make sure you got the support system in place..

Independent shop / M-B specialist will be cheaper vs. dealer.

Good luck!

I knew someone that had a Fiat years ago in the States.

Parts had to be special ordered and cost a lot. Something else to consider.

Yeah, part supports won't be a problem w/ M-B, though... they are easily available as they are pretty common cars.

Not saying it will be cheap, but one should be able to get the parts pretty easily.

To quote Sir Mix-A-Lot:

"There's something about my Benzo with tinted windows
It's kinda slick, how I'm made for bimbos
Cruisin down the street with this gip on my hood
I'm gettin points like a Benzo should
I said "yo skees you lookin for the flesh
You wanna ride, better dust off your dress"
I ain't dissin you .. skees
But my Benzo's the ultimate tease
Walk into the Spectrum, some suckers wanna kick my rectum
Got up in my face, tellin me I was deaf
I slapped the boy cause he had bad breaf
Looked down had his rope I saw VNLW
What you tryin do, you dumb brother you
Call yourself a baller in a Volkswagen
You better hush homes and squash that braggin"

I agree with Shark. Mercedes is awful but BMW is almost as awful. I had a BMW and it was the worst car I have owned and my grandfather owned a Mercedes E55 AMG that had some of the worst fitting of interior panels I've ever seen (you had to slam the the glovebox door just to make it get stuck closed, still wouldn't engage the latch). That same E55 also ate an ECU just 10 months into it's life. Promptly sold and a Viper was put in its place. [>:]

Interesting. My coworker has had a mercedes for 160k+ miles, and has been very happy with it. The only issues he's run into is that parts do get pricey.

do a history report on the car they have problems when people don't change the oil. I'm not joking on that. benz runs mobile 1 so people think you can go 15k before changing oil. its been some time but 7500 to 10,000 miles is recomened service i think. benz makes good cars very safe in fact I would put my wife in one if she asked. c class tho can't afford anything upscale. 50k on a car is a tad to much for me. we have an idiot down the street has a cl500 2005 nice car tho. benz have lots of little intermttent problems that can make you go crazy. they did get a lot better then before. also when you buy a benz don't be shocked on how much a set of brakes cost. the cost to own a benz is very high

north american cars are not the same. totally a differant market. look you guys run them as taxi's and its the same for bmw. its like if you guys saw a 2010 mustang gt500 or a corvette z06. its almost every day thing around me. I'm not putting them down just making a point fords and chevy's are every day cars just like in the uk bmw and benz are every day.

I gotta disagree here, I have been around cars my whole life, sold auto parts for nearly 10 years in high school and college, been spending someones elses money on cars, parts and trucks for the last 13 years in the insurance industry, due to my inolvement with the insurance industry I can tell you I have seen more wrecked bmws and mercedes than some of these people will see on the road, I see 70-160 wrecked cars a week mind you, IMO they are both right up there with volvo, I have had more than one person tell me they feel like their mercedes saved there life.
If you buy used there is a chance its a hunk of crap no matter what brand, somewhere out there is a $500,000 bently that has had $215,000 in repairs and don't drive straight but some smuck is thinking he got a sweet dealer for $366,000 at the auction LOL.

I think part of that reputation (for BMW at least) is where the vehicles are manufactured. I think that's the case for VW anyway, could be for BMW. For example, maybe the UK gets BMWs built in Germany, while the US gets BMWs built in Mexico (cheaper labor, likely more lax quality standards in manufacturing).

I've heard that's it's true to some extent anyway, just not sure if it applies to BMW and Mercedes.

I'm sure there's still plenty of BMW and M-B that's from Germany...

I still think they are considered prestigious.. but to me, they are getting less interesting, especially BMW.. building 5-series based on the 7-series platform (so it is overweight... !) The same w/ 1-series (based on 3), so it is not as light as it can be.. M brand is diluted (a M version of X6? how is that even motorsport related.. ?! Not like the old day when the M3 was actually, ah, created, to race...), etc.

With all due respect, you missed my point by a mile..

My point was that the same manufacturer has very different reputation with the same models.. yet in different countries..

Eman might have hit the nail on the head with the Mexico thing.. most of the Mercedes/BMW/VW on ours roads would come from Germany who are known to build excellent cars.

just did not explaine my self I guess. was trying to make a point and kinda lost my self in thought. north american cars are differant then european cars as far as mercedes are concerned. Like a cl500 s600 sl all of them in north america would not be what you see in the UK. just like fords in the uk are not what we see here in north america. sorry have a real bad head cold its killing me and the noggin just does not work like it should even with out the head cold.

Still missing the point..

He wants a CLK, not an M3, and not a Mustang, how the hell is that video relevant? apart from trying to start some pathetic US vs Euro arguement?

ummmm he was talking about bmw and how they are not what they were. also I like the clk said so in one of the other post. no reason to get hot brother. no american vs euro stuff just thought mustang came a long way. mustangs were jokes of the world in performance, they are real players now.

from what i understand, BMW, Mercedes, jaguar, land-rover ect. are built much better in europe, many cars here are made in Mexico, and even the ones that are made in the UK and Germany have more parts that are made in places like china, Mexico, philippines ect.

also, you can buy pretty basic mercedes and BMW's in Europe, where as here they are fully loaded.
