Mini Formula Racer
So, I'm currently waiting for my connecting flight home. I just got back from my week at the Naval Academy. At the academy I saw a mini formula car. it was a project and it was about 500 lbs and had 250 horsepower. It had a straight four for a powerplant. It would be costly to build one. Mainly the engine and exhaust. I was just wOndering what your guy's thoughts are on this. Would it be worth building? It sounds fun to build and drive.

RE: Mini Formula Racer
Sound cool! Wish you had some pics.
I had this for a while but sold it, 650CC Bombardier engine w/single speed, full independent suspension and 4wl disc brakes,,I was guessing 80-90's tech. I could never find out what series or if it was raced in, chassis/box frame had 427 stamped on it .It was too well built to be a homebuilt garage car but could never find any more info on it. I picked it up out of Longview Texas from a Dr [who pick it up out of California] it now resides somewhere in Lufkin. I had it running when I first brought it home but stored it way as a future restore project just never could get it around to it so I sold it.
Last pic i was going for a antique look.

Or maybe formula palmer audi? They're pretty cheap.

Formula ford, which is pretty much the only type of small formula car. They run a 1.6L 4cyl, the older ones had the really long exhausts trailing out the back, like OP said.

Mini formula 1 car...Palmer Audi fits that description much better than formula ford, they are about the same size, only the Palmer Audis have over double the power to weight ratio and a body that more closely resembles a formula 1. Although I wasn't suggesting that a Palmer Audi was the project to which the OP refers (far too heavy), as they are also around 1000lbs in weight. No doubt the project to which the OP refers is entirely custom. I just thought he was looking for ideas for 'mini formula 1 cars'.

RE: Mini Formula Racer
Sorry guys, this racer was built from scratch. So, thats probably why you guys are having difficulty finding it. It looks closer to the design of the ford.

As I said, I never suspected for one second with the specs you gave that it was anything but a completely custom job, just pointing out a few formula style track day racers in case you felt like looking into a similar project yourself.
