Computer problem
We got my dad a flight simulator for Christmas (Reflex XTR if anyone is interested) and I'm trying to get my other computer running again, we want to hook it up to the TV in our living room to run the sim on.
Anyways, my old computer has been sitting in my closet since I built my new one (probably going on a year now), it didn't have PS in it so I had to buy one for it today, got it installed, and wouldn't you know it, the darn thing wont run anymore [:@]
I don't know what the deal is with it, as far as I can tell it's not even loading the bios . I turn it on, it beeps twice, then beeps fast about 5 times, then after maybe 30 seconds it beeps 3 more times then does nothing. The monitor stays black the whole time.
I messed with it for at least two hours tonight and didn't get anywhere. Everything is hooked up correctly so it "should" run fine.
Has anybody had a problem like this before?

RE: Computer problem
hummm...what computer or what mobo it has? go look up on internet and see what the beeping code means...but as you described...either your mobo is burned or your video card gone bad...take the video card, memory out and put it back...try that

RE: Computer problem
When it beeps on post like that, there is a hardware problem somewhere. Could be as simple as a video card not plugged in right, or a major hardware failure. You need to look up the hardware POST beep code for your motherboard. That will give you a better idea where to look for the problem.

RE: Computer problem
Nevermind, I found a list - http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml
I'll have to mess with it later and and count the fast beeps to be sure. I didn't have a keyboard hooked up to it, and according to that list if it beeps 6 times fast (mine has AMI BIOS) it's a keyboard problem so I hope that's what is wrong with it.

RE: Computer problem
Easy for you to say
Anyways, I think it's a lost cause. I got to looking at it and noticed it looks like a tiny diode/capacitor/etc. blew out, one end of it looks like it came unsoldered and the motherboard is discolored around it, oh well
Would buy a new motherboard for it, but with my luck that wouldn't be the problem.

RE: Computer problem
LOL no it's not a dell , home built like the one I'm using right now.
The computer is old but it does exceed the minimum the requirements for Reflex.
BTW, the motherboard is toast, going to have to get a new (better) one for it.
