Default Any finish carpenter's here?

I just got a Craftsman professional workbench for v-day, it came with a MDF (medium density fiber) board top. I want to seal it so it does not get all greasy looking, but I don't want the MDF to bulge or dis-form. What would I want to use to seal it and make it durable? Would sanding sealer and some polyurethane work ok?

I would just go with the sanding sealer then use some finishing wax over it to give it a little shine. The poly will just get all scratched up and look ugly.
