Internet connection...
Sooo bummed.... My DSL service provider will not provide me service at my new home. Here are my options.... Which ones are better and why?
I have a port in my house I believe it is the 45 style like for LAN it is red, what is that for? Only one in the house..... T1?
What is the deal with DSL? I had it in a house a 1\4 mile from the new house, but I can't get it now?

RE: Internet connection...
I would get broadband like comcast or RCN cause most houses already have the cable jacks built in and if they don't you can just get them to install a few more or just hook up a wireless router to your jack and then have internet around the house.

RE: Internet connection...
I've had cable and dsl. I found the cable to be much more trouble free. Might just be my providers though. Although my business dsl from the same provider has been almost completely flawless.
Hard to say what that data port is for. Maybe check your telco box and see if there is something there that indicates what it is. Look for a number like 128 or 256. Could be a fractional T1 or something that someone needed at home to link to a business network. You don't want to pay for that type of access. Crappy data rates for big bucks.
Go cable if it's available.

RE: Internet connection...
Well I went with cable, I think i am getting robbed though...... I pay the same price but my DSL was alot faster. I was getting typical download speeds in the 350+ range with cable I get around 125, I can upgrade to the dsl speed for an additional $20 a month but I got enough bills already to warrant $50+ for internet sevice. The installer did tell me they were going to up the speed to compete with dsl but who knows when that will happen, if ever. Where I got boned was I have Direct TV, the cable company wanted an additional $10 a month for non cable subscribers. I said no way was I just giving them money for nothing, so I got basic cable for $14 a month. Now I have Satellite and cable [&:]

RE: Internet connection...
I have cable through Charter. Just last weekend they upped my speed from 384 kbps to 3 mbps and the cost went down $5 a month. I refused to believe that there was really that much of an increase in speed until I checked it against several different speed check sites. All but one of them could only check up to 3 meg and showed 3+ as the result. I consider that blazing speed for home use.

Well we have the who Time Warner package, the digital cable, digital phone, and internet bundled. It all comes on one bill, but its much less than paying for 3 separate services would be. I know that in some states TWC puts a like 40GB/Month limit, but so far I have none... which is a good thing because I download/upload stuff from my server a lot.
