Ask your parents then as it's from the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show, Moose and Squirrel as known by their nemesis Boris Badenov.

It was weird yesterday walking into work and hearing thunderstroms overhead. Luckily we didn't get the tornadoes that Missouri got. Having tornado warnings issued at 3;00 AM is even rarer much less at the end of February!
Here's one from last summer just northwest of me:

That was in Enterprise, Alabama. It hit the high school and collapsed one of the hallways. There were about 50 injured in the high school. There was a lot of destruction in the town but very little has been mentioned about it.

After the tornado hit this town we has a safety team at work that I was on. We went through a lot of videos on tornadoes and learned a lot. Camcorders have been the weather forecasters best friend as they've learned a lot more after people started videotaping them.
Your best bet for safety is to get as many walls as you can in a house or other building between you and the tornado. Look at aftermaths of them and you'll see the center of homes still standing while the outer walls are gone. I noticed this also after driving through the area where the tornado hit here. A tornado usually moves at around 35 MPH so figure a car going down your street that fast as they don't last that long once they've hit but can go for miles at a time. The one here had touched down several times in about the 5 miles while it lasted.

Just got back from my local Skywarn certification class. Not much new, but good to have a refresher course. Anyway, best place to be during a tornado, under gound, if not there in the basement, or a bathroom on the lowest level. Stay away from the southwest exposures of the building as this is typically where the storm will come from. Check out the [link=http://www.skywarn.org]Skywarn Homepage[/link] for more info on this program. The program here in STL is nationally known, and we also have the largest deployment of sirens too.

About the tragedy in Alabama, the educators did everything right, even invited the parents to come into the school, you just can't predict or take mother nature for granted.

I swear Minnesota is they only state where you can go from -15 degrees to 60 in 2 Days. Have 3 feet of snow and 4 days later NO snow. We are so ****ed up for weather up here. Right now we are flooding in part of the state and the other part is full of snow still.

In the summer the thunderstorms can get pretty hot "big lightning storms" Tornados are common, and Humid Heat is allways a factor.

hehehe, i have a story, i live in tornado valley also known as plainfield Illinois, and one day when a tornado almost touched down and 50mph winds that rip off siding, (average night here) i was upstairs ready to got to bed, in my room i hear flap, flap, flap, i said "hey dad, i think our satellite fell dow... BOOOOM!!! our neighbors trampoline slammed into the side of the building, shaking everything and made our dishes crash to the floor, i run out of the room like a little girl, i thought that a car hit our house, i look outside after stuff stops blowing through the winds, and i find my neighbor 3 doors down trampoline flew up missed two fences and a light post and ramed into our house, it WRAPED around our house like a taco shell, it took us three hours to disassemble it off, it ripped our siding and broke some framing, we told our neighbor to tie it down but NOOO.... he didn't pay a penny for the repair[:@]

other than that we have had trees get knocked down, lightning struck our sidewalk (nice chunk missing to this day) sighns get bent in half, and windows blown out.

also, a few months ago, it rained then snowed then hailed then iced over in one day also seen golfball sized hail... oh and the new craze, thunder snow.... WTH is this?

One one on the other side of that lake to your east that the lake is named after?
We missed it down here but further north got it. My son is visiting up there this weekend and told me about it. We're getting the one right at this moment that's coming up from the southwest.
Yes, we've already had one tornado touch down about 15 miles north of me, tore up a horse barn and they found debris 6 miles away.
Weird weather. It's 75 now and they're talking rain mixed with snow on Monday.
