Nissan Skyline
Is this car illegal over in the US or something? Or maybe it's just my state (Utah)?
I always wanted one of these cars, but could never even find one.
Is it illegal or just too expensive to buy/import?

That R35 is based on the G35? I remember seeing an Infiniti with a Skyline emblem near where I live some months ago and there were a few onlookers commenting that it was a G.
The older style is really cool, if you ask me. The models in Gran Turismo 4 are my favorites! Beautiful!

Hope.. the R35 is on a completely different platform.. I am sure they share some technology somewhere, but the GT-R is on its own..
In Japan, the G35 are called "Skyline".. the new GT-R is no longer "Skyline GT-R", it is just "GT-R"..
Don't ask me.. ask the marketing folks.. LOL!
Yeah, the previous generation are all designed to be right hand drive only and there wasn't any "easy" way to convert it.. since the engine was not in the center of the engine bay [X(] But finally Nissan decides to give the rest of the world a taste of its GT-R legend.. About time!

There is no such thing as an R35 skyline. The new model is simply called Nissan GT-R. Everyone refers to it as a skyline but its not its correct designation.

RE: Nissan Skyline
Correct.. there's only V35 Skyline (which is what we called G35 in US...)
V36 is out already, which is the current G35/G37..
R35 is the "GT-R"..

RE: Nissan Skyline
Infiniti is like the luxury/upper class version of Nissan, Just as BMW have Rolls Royce now and Mercedes have the Maybach. There are so many Nissan GTR's in London nowadays but people still call them skylines so thats what they call them in motoring magazines and shows

I'd think a better analogy would be Lexus to Toyota, Acura to Honda, etc.
Rolls was a different company that was bought up and still act more or less an independent company.. (for some reasons, I thought BMW bought Bentley.. not RR, but I don't keep track, ha!) Maybach was really just a name that's resurrected.. similar to Bugatti..

RE: Nissan Skyline
Alright guys, the older Nissan Skylines, R32, R33, and R34 are not illegal in the United States, they are just hard to make them street legal with the right hand drive and the VIN numbers are not the same as the US ones. There are about 100 R34's in the US currently, they are incredibly expensive first off, around 100k, and it costs even more to get them into the US with import fees and making them street legal in the US. The R34 is handsdown my favorite car in the world and I do wish that I will own one someday. They are so much cooler than the new GTR.

Yeah, was just saying that they were never officially imported by Nissan due to the right hand drive configuration and Nissan never intended it to be a global platform to begin with.
Yeah, there were firms that specialized in importing them into US.. but I'd guess they will be all out of biz now that the new ones are officially sold here.. !!
It is a good thing for sure.. we finally get our GT-Rs!!

Japan has problems with overpowered Nissans so the President and CEO signed a gentleman's agreement to help prevent the modification of the GT-R. So aftermarket for the car will be minimal, smaller than it is for the Bugatti Veyron. [X(] It doesn't bother me, I won't be getting one anyway.
Mine's still built a beautiful one though.

Trust me, people will be cranking out 600hps+ GT-R in about 3 months once it hits the showroom.. oh wait, it has already happened...
People will find ways, no worry...
