The Big Bopper (J. P. Richardson), Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly all died in a plane crash on 3 Feb 1959.

Big Buddy Holly celebration takes place every year in Clear Lake, Iowa at the Surf Ballroom. This is the last place the trio played before the fateful night. Tours of the crash site are available if you want to walk a bit in the freezing cold. It's become a pretty big deal locally, with people coming from all over the world to partake in the festivity. I live about 15 miles from Clear Lake.

Check out this link. These guys put on a heck of a show. Been touring for years. Big Bopper's son plays his dad. My wife gave him a kiss on the cheek after one of the shows. Real nice guys and they take you right back to 1959. Click on the video links. "Hey Buddy" is really cool. If your a Buddy fan, you'll see how he used Buddy's song titles to make up the lyrics. Really cool.
