Wing wobbles, 65" Yak
I am finishing up my 65" Yak, hopefully to fly at Nashville ProBro. With the wings bolted on, There is a bit of wobble between the wing and fuse. The gap is fairly tight but there is maybe .015 at the top interface. Should I shim it with wood or maybe just put on some thin foam wing saddle tape to tighten up the gap?
Thanks,,,Matt

Matt, either technique will work. I'd recommend shimming with thin balsa and sanding flat to begin with. Get the wings fitting right before covering. Using the foam is a great idea and I never thought about that. Might be worth doing afterwards anyway. Just make sure the mounting tabs fit flush against the fuselage when bolting the wings on, any induced stress like the bolts pulling the tabs in might lead to them separating from the wing.

Too late on the covering. I had fitted the panels just by hand and they looked good but when I bolt them solid the gap is more noticable.

The foam is not a bad idea at all. I've used a foam on one of my composite gliders which had a similar problem where the wings did not seat well on the sides and had a nasty gap. I don't know how to explain the foam I used but you get it at all the car spare places. Its an after market gasket that is used to seal door etc. Sorta like a dark grey foam with a one sided stick on. Very dense foam and you get it in all kinds of funny sizes and thicknesses. It might work Matt.
