Default crashed the E-starter today

got to the school yard and had checked out the throws and all earlier this week,, but when I was ready to take off I noticed there wasnt enough elevator movement, so I take it back apart and one of the struts broke (first bad sign) I decided then to switch over to rubber bands and dowels when I got back home...anyway I bend the wires and get enough throw but it seems underpowered so instead of trying to take off I throw it , it climbs out slow so I turn it and it starts to drop, not bad but I cann tell I gotta go straight for a while to get some altitude,, the problem starts about here because I'm going straight the wrong way (towards the street)and I tried to climb too fast and it stalled without enough room to recover, but on the way down it hit a power line and took off half the elevator, the wing broke at the screw, yanked off the wheels, battery holder, bottom of the rudder and struts..gonna be a challenge to fix it..I think I need a little more power too.... ...Rog

OUCH!

It's a good thing foam fixes fairly easy. You could always go brushless.

[:@] ROG,if it makes you any feel better I crashed mine too and I have been flying R/C planes off and on, all my life. I totaled mine in a high speed crash. I had made dozens of mod's on this model to make it both lighter and stronger. I added foam wheels and replaced the stock motor with a wattage re-wound 370 running E-Tec 1200's and a Pixie 7P. I also made my own control surfaces with CA hinges. Control surfaces were slightly larger than the stock GWS parts. All up weight was just 11.8 oz. Since it's first flight I never felt at ease flying this plane.I found it to be extremely unstable. I did the usual CG changes to correct the instability problem, but I never pinned it down. I thought it might of had a motor thrust alignment problem or a warped wing as it did not like to turn left !

I have my e-starter as my 1st aileron airplane. I love it. It is so easy to fly. Me and my dad have one each.
I use stock motor. I don't use the battery that they recommended (7 cells 730 NiMh). I use 8 cells 800 NiMh.
Good luck.

Default RE: crashed the E-starter today

I have an E-Starter that flys very well on the stock engine/gear box. I did go to an
EP-9070 prop, as recommeded when using a 9.6 volt pack. I have crashed mine several times, mostly flying a couple feet off the ground, when I should have been
2 or 3 mistake high. A friend arrived the other night as I was packing up to go home and wanted to see it fly. I decided there was enough light for one more flight. Bad decision!
I took off and realized I could not see the plane very well, so I made a couple of circles around the field and came in to land. There is a parking lot next to a large open lot where I usually fly. There was also a couple of tractor/trailors parked there. I just new I was clear of the trailers. The plane smacked one of trailers about six feet off the ground.
Broke the left wing off, shoved the motor stick back into the fuselage, crumpled the
cowling, then fell straight to the ground, breaking the tail off. It took me about an hour
with 5-minute epoxy, and it still flys great! The prop and the motor shaft survived.
The tail has been put back on three times now, and never breaks in the same spot. I
figure eventually, it will be all epoxy and I won,t have to worry about it breaking!
Any way, these planes are very repairable. I'm using a 9.6 volt AAA pack from
CheapBatteryPacks.com, and have plenty of power. I have found that a little oil on the
motor bushings and gear box bearings helps the power tremendously. I also use a little
silicone grease on the gears. I'm going to try out my Funny Park flyer as soon I get the chance. Anybody flown one of these? I like the GWS Corsair, too, but I don't know if I
can keep up with one yet, as I hear they are fast.
Good Luck,
Bud E.
