Default Wattage Eindecker

Completed and flew the Wattage Eindecker last week...stock speed 400/2.1:1 gearing was marginal on a 7-8 cell NiMh 800-1000 mAh pack and 8X6 slow fly APC prop. Began to experiment... finally wound up installing a cobalt 400 engine that had been broken in but not seriously flown. Used essentialy the same battery/prop combination, but what a difference the motor made! Prop now getting 80-90 watts and 8 amps...plane easily flew from a hand launch and got a good 8 minutes of 1/4 throttle flight. Weighs in about 24 oz. Caught a thermal (updraft?) a few days later and spent about 15 minutes soaring with a couple of seagulls! Fun plane, underpowered with stock powerplant but is capable of much more.
