I am thinking of getting a 2-cell Li-Poly set from Kokam and i was wondering if my Great Planes ESC will be friendly to a Li-Poly pack. If not what should I get for this type of Pack?

It depends on what your low voltage cutoff is set for and if that is what you want to use, to monitor your batteries. It is generally recommended, that you do not discharge lipo's much below 3 volts per cell. If you own a volt meter, you can check the cuttoff point on your speed control, yourself.
Having said that, one could actually fly without a voltage cutoff, if a timer is used and a periodic check of battery voltage at the field, is performed. In other words, you've got to come in for a landing every few minutes of flying and check the batteries. After a few sessions, you will be able to predict a safe flight time for the batteries, say 15 mins. and from then after, set your timer to 15 mins. and just fly till the buzzer goes off.
A lot of guy's do this, having learned the hard way.

Learning the hard way can be the expensive route.. There are now new easy to use controllers from Jeti that can do the lipoly job without difficult programming. Check out [link=http://www.aircraft-world.com]Aircraft World[/link] in Japan. They are reasonably priced and they deliver fast!
