Default basic parameters of a park flyer...

One basic question on park flyers, what are reasonable parameters to use in the decision that it is 'safe' to fly a certain model in a park? Such as, overall weight? wingspan? wing loading? At what point is a model simply not appropriate for a park? Take for example a Sig Wonder. With a .15 glow engine, a wingspan of roughly 3 feet, length of 2 feet, and a wing loading of about 12-14oz/sq foot, is that an alright plane?

thanks again!!

I think I would keep anything glow to a regular flying field or away from residential parks not only for the safety but for the noise. Laws banning any type of flying models ie; rockets, control line, r/c are popping up everywhere. I would say anything gentle like a pico stick or gws tiger moth, something slow and gentle. Even though it's not a baseball to the face people still think it's different and more dangerous.

Answered somewhere else. Why do people insist on posting the same question in several forums ?

if you look at his postcount and the date he registered, you will realize that he hasnt been here as long as you.. so he probably didnt realize there was a parkflier forum.

so this i ask you..

when will people stop being critical of others and realize that when they do, they are just being a d**k?

sorry if i offended anyone.. but when people post just to put someone else down it really p*sses me off.
theres no room for that in the world.

Default Thanks Joe

I am still getting familiar with the different discussion forums, and even more so, what question is appropriate for a specific forum. I did post almost the exact question in two places, but I really thought anyone with enough free time to read every post in every forum wouldn't be so offended by a question being asked twice. It had the same title and the same user name, it could have been easily overlooked. It's too bad for all the valuable advice and knowledge available on these forums, the few questions I have asked receive roughly one insult and one purposeful dismissal of my question for every couple intelligent answers. I don't even bother with clubs anymore, I just fly in an open field and at a farm so I don't have to deal with guys approaching me just to tell me what is wrong with me and my planes. God bless Realflight G2, or I would probably have quit the hobby.
Thanks again Joe.

Ah another of those "I hate clubs", "I don't see why I should have to do things for the convenience of anyone but me" types.

BTW I wasn't offended, I did answer your question, but it is reasonable to post questions in one place and wait for some answers. Why people feel a need to be rude you if you point out the existence of these rules and conventions I'll never know. Many of the people who are trying to help do indeed read most if not all of the forums and are not too keen on seeing the same question everywhere they look. Still I'm quite prepared not to bother with any of your questions in future.

BTW Joe, why are people deliberately offensive and then write "sorry if I offended anyone" ? It's such an obvious lie. No-one forced you to be offensive in the first place.

Good luck - Steve

Default Very sorry Steve.

Steve,
At least let me apologize to you, you're right, you did answer my question. I honestly (and obviously) did not understand the fairly strong etiquette involved in forum's like this. For what it is worth, please let me also explain I think you are giving me more credit than I deserve in dealing with clubs. I'm still quite new to all of this. There is a club in south Austin, Texas, which is the best group of people you'll ever meet. Unfortunately I had to move, and my stay there was brief.
You make mistakes sometimes, and I apparently and unknowingly have made another by asking the same question in two places.
I'm still relatively new to the hobby, and very new to these forums. Sometimes I feel it is a society of experienced modelers and I should 'raise my hand' just to speak, and other times I can't believe people take the time to engage in the moronic banter that goes on. Either way, I have tried to ask a few, well spoken questions, and always said thank you in advance for any time anyone would take to respond. I'm all for better etiquette, Lord knows our world (and some threads) could use it. I apologize for my own lack of etiquette in asking one question twice.

it was obvious that i meant that for everyone else but you.. you know that, so never call me a liar again.

no one forced you to be offensive in the first place either. if you were really so "innocently enforcing and reminding of the rules and etiquette of the forum" you would have politely said to him "please observe that there are separate posting areas for specific questions, and it would be much appreciated if the same question was not posted twice in different locations." instead of attacking the guy instantly. i think you need to chill out.

there.. simple, nice and no one is offended. the man was clearly offended by your actions.. as he stated if you read his reply to me. im not saying you should apologize.. just think next time and realize that there are more people that use this forum than you.

anyway.. im done with this conversation.

I'm going to say just a couple of things......first of all, IMO nobody is doing an injustice by inadvertently asking the same question on a couple of forums...big deal....if you don't have anything constructive or useful to say, then keep quiet

And GelCell.....AMEN!!

And last but not least....uonlylivetwice....feel free to ask question anytime on any forum and just ignore any stupidity that happens by. There's plenty of us here to help you out.

Have a good one!! Jim

Okay. I won't pull any punches. What a DICK! Jeez, it was just a simple question the poor guy asked. Don't act like he ruined the entire forum. I for one was interested in the same things he was asking. I thought it was great to see it in another forum. It means he has a better chance of getting more answers to his question. If he was flooding every forum then it would be the same as spam and you could bet he would catch hell from everyone.

It seems lately that so many people troll the forums just to add a negative response to anything so they can get everyone riled up. Unfortunately it works. Look at how off topic this got because of one troll.

Now how about we get some constructive answers to the poor guys question?

I answered the question. Did any of you other oh so critical folks ? Zebra says "There's plenty of us here to help you out." But does he answer the question ? Not a chance .

I still think glow engines have no place in parks and questions should be posted in one forum at a time. Hope you get some real help soon.

Steve

BTW I'll apologise for my phrasing, I was in a rush. Next time I'll say "BTW it's conventional to post your question in one forum at a time, that way people don't waste loads of time writing out a detailed answer just to find that you've already had all that information in another forum".

Clubs suck. If he has a good place to fly without getting scolded for having fun, why flame him for using it?

i think i would only fly from a speed 400 and down. i wouldnt fly gas anywhere where im not in between farm feilds. planes like the lite stick and tiger moth are great for use in parks. also if the park is big enough, they can accomodate speed 400 models like the zagi. the park i fly from is big enough to fly seaplanes from so gas is fine there but IMO it all depends on the size of the park.

Exactly! It also makes a big difference where the park is...say inner-city or outskirts. And your idea about speed 400 and down is a pretty good estimate. The main thing here is to just use plain good ole common sense. If we do that, we'll all be fine. Jim
