[:-]Wups, sorry, that may not help unless the model number is on the unit. If it is you can match the number with the two types in the online store.
Good luck!

Hi,
I have both models of the 555 and I can not tell the difference by looking at them, therfore, I had to write the model numbers on a label and stick it on the case. As far as I know, the only sure way to know is to try them with the different transmitters (JR is positive shift, Futaba is negative shift).
I know this will not help you now, but it may help for future purchases. I now buy the Hitec Universal Supreme, there is not much difference in size and the shift is selected by a jumper.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

It ought to be marked "JR/Airtronics" or "Hitec/Futaba", which is positive or negative shift, on the case label. You might get faster results asking over in the Hitec support forum here on RCU.

Found the answer.

See in the picture where there is a number below where it says hitech 555
after the number you will note red text that says Hitec. This denotes a negative shift receiver. A positive shift would say JR/Airtronics
