After building and flying four glow kits, I decided to try electrics, and will go for the Mountain models Switchback 3D, with the following set up:

Motor GWS 300 C Gearbox
Prop 9x7
8 cell nimh 720 mah
Pixie esc
GWS nimh Charger
GWS Pico BB Servos and receiver

I´ve read in the forums this is one of the basic set ups, but am I missing something, in terms of components to make it fly?
Any sugestions to upgrade the kit other than going brushless.

aeroman, My favorite setup for a gws 300 c-drive is retime the motor for correct rotation, gws-11-8 prop, and 2s2p 1020 kokam lipoly. in my 11.5 oz scratch built it has good vertical accelleration. The setup draws 7 amps static, and your 720 mah pack should come close to the same power, but a little less run time. I get 5-6 minutes wot, or 20-30 minutes just cruising.
If you are not familiar with retiming there are many threads about it
Hope this helps

For the Switchback 3D, my favorite setup is the C motor, 10x8 prop, and 8xKAN950s. The KANs will deliver a lot more current than the 720s so the performance is noticably better. You'll also burn out your motor sooner. Replacement motors are $10.

I am about out of KAN packs but will have more mid March.

Aeroman,

Where do you live in Venezuela? I spent about a year cruising the north coast on a 44' ketch. Spent a lot of time in Puerto La Cruz.

Thanks to Doug and Dave for the advice.
One more question for Doug: Do I need a special charger for the 8xKAN 950s or I can use the GWS nimh charger with both the 8 cell nimh 720 mah and the 8xKAN 950, and switch batteries with the same set up?

The GWS charger will work fine with the KAN950s.

I will have a shipment of the KANs in mid March.

Icanfly,

I live in Caracas, but being a part owner of a Cessna 206, I fly frecuently along the Venezuelan coast, to Puerto La Cruz, Los Roques, and La Tortuga Island.
Any information or help you need from here, feel free to e mail anytime. I also like to mention that I am fishing addict and love the sea.

Hmmm, if you place an order with me, maybe I should hand deliver it...
