How's that Trojan fly with a Power 10?

Power 10 is great. exact same physical size and bolt pattern as the stock 480 motor. Alot more power for grass feild take offs and doesnt use up the battery in a hurry. Can also turn a larger prop. Made the trojan a lot faster, so i suspect i'll have one in the corsair before long with a 11x8 prop. Corsairs used a 13 ft diameter prop.

i was just reading over on the wattflyers site about the corsair and a couple have reported that their lipo's have been punchured by a screw from the motor mount that extends into the battery compartment. might want to check that and mabey ca a bit of fuel tubeing over the screw as a safty measure.

Yes, this is true. EVERYONE should check their plane and make sure NO screws are protruding. See posts 777 for the last remark on this topic.

This is actually a "known" issue on any motor mount where the screws protrude. Check all your planes.

I clicked on the link and it took me to an early part of this thread thereby not showing the WARNING about the Firewall Screw with the potential to place a hole in your Li-POLY battery pack should you slide your battery too far Forward!

hey guys........my corsair just arrived today. got it together in just a few minutes and took it to the park for two packs worth of flying. awesome!!!! will check on this screw problem, thanks for posting this. rob

Screw mod finished on my Corsair. Thanks for the tip. This plane flies even better than my T-28. It will be going with me to the flying field often.

Used the ESC that came in the plane. the Power 10 motor i got at a LHS.
Its E-flite
Was a direct bolt on fit, no mods. Only the output shaft is a larger diameter.

I tried epoxying a piece of very good foam material and the freaking screw at the Upper Right Hand side of the Firewall cut into the Foam piece like butter!! [>:][X(]

I removed the propeller, cowling, screw and cut to at least half it's length was RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!! ($$$) I took off any sharp edges and burrs by sliding the new screw end with some sandpaper and re-installed the screw and torque down without any problem.

I did exactly what several have done here and now I have a shorter Upper Right hand Screw securing the Firewall assembly / Motor assembly and PLUS the protection of that Foam Piece I glued earlier!

It was super easy like several have indicated here and did not take any time at all, as a matter of fact, I took more time writing this and taking pictures!

has anbody contacted horizon and told them about this design flaw? i epoxied a bit of foam over the protruding screw on mine, all should be well now.

Yes. Plus we follow these threads pretty closely.

Expect a bulletin to be posted soon, recommending exactly what has already been covered (very thoroughly, I might add) in this thread.

Best solution is to replace the screw or cut it off to about 5-6 mm in length.

Hi Guys!

Just posting to inform you all of an updated Picture I just uploaded showing the extra Foam Piece I installed to protect the battery from remaining Firewall Screw head length after reducing it's length. The arrows were pointing to the wrong Foam area and not the piece I epoxy in.

I got my Corsair yesterday, and I can't wait to fly it! Tonight I'm going to fix the lovely screw issue, and I'll maiden her on Saturday morning. If I can get my wife up early enough, I'll have her video my first flight so everyone here can see what happens when someone who has never flown a radio-controlled plane before starts off with a 4-channel bird. Hopefully, there won't be too much carnage!

Btw, has anyone here used the MRC Superbrain 977 to charge the Parkzone lipo? I already have one from my 1/8th scale buggy racing days. I've searched for information everywhere, and it seems that the 977 can charge 2 or 3-cell lipos, but there is nothing in the documentation that came with the charger that says it is lipo compatible. If it can charge them, I would definitely buy a balancer for it. I really hope to be able to use it because it can use AC power, and my Acura MDX is notorious for its short battery life when the motor is not running. I would hate to get stuck out in some field somewhere just because I charged my batt, and leaving the motor running while charging isn't an option because of gas prices! [:@]

Can't wait for the video. In regard to the 977, I can't comment on this particular model, but I decided against a SuperBrain product for my lipo-charging needs due to some warnings from other members of the rc community. If it does not list lipo compatibility, BEWARE! Call MRC if you are in doubt.

Thanks Rtice... after searching some more for info on the 977, I actually found it in a RCUniverse forum (I guessed I missed it before). I'm not going to risk using the 977. Apearently it will not shut off automatically when the lipo is done charging. Plenty of people have had puffy lipos after using the 977, so forget that! I'll just get a charger that's meant for lipos.

I thought I should drop in and let you guys on the univrse know about a scale upgrade for this model I'm offering.

In the kit:
Cockpit interior with pilot figure and seat.
Thicker canopy so you can fly the model with it open.
8 Missles for under your wing and a drop tank for the belly.
Also there is a dummy engine for the cowl but you have to remove the old wagon wheel radial.
it fits against the leading edge of the cowl and is installed from the inside.


If you want a set for your Park Zone Corsair the cost is $22 plus $6 shipping in the US.

If you are overseas shoot me an E-mail and we can figure it out. But be aware that it will be in the $20 area so find a buddy to share the expense

If you haven't already, please do yourself a favor and spend some time on a good simulator before you attempt flying your Corsair. Of course you may do whatever you want, but this is not the best plane for beginners. Good luck!

There are other fun things comparing the Corsair with the Spitfire as well as tips enthusiastic Corsair pilots might find useful/intertaining, etc..

I couldn't find that protruding screw that has been a problem with some, but as long as I had the cowl off I went ahead and glued a small strip of carbon fiber tow on the inside the full length of the cowl over each of the mounting screw holes that I hope will never be structurally tested. I have only crashed once so far and that is quite enough for now.

It's really great to see you and so many others enjoying the Corsair. ParkZone continues to amaze me!

Thanks for the advice, GaGeeBees. I actually have logged at least 5 hours on RealFlight, and I can take off, do aerobatics, and land with no problems using birds similar to the Corsair, and many others, as well. I know I might be getting in over my head, but that's OK! I have lots of tape, hot glue, CA, and extra parts, so I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you guys know if it ends up being a bad idea!
