Hi. I agree the T-Hawk is superb as a beginners/fun fly model. I'm having problems though. I've got a very glitchy bird. I've flown at various sites and times and get a lot spurious uncommanded control movements including amotor that runs intermitently when on and swithes on when commanded off. This culminated in a plummet from 20ft straight into the deck when an uncommanded full down elevator movement took the model out of the sky. I can certainly vouch for its strength, as the only damage was a slight wrinkle in the body and a stripped servo (now replaced). Anyone shed some light on this?

Tell me about glitchy! Been there with mine!
Lots of people are saying "Get it without the radio and put your own radio gear in it. Then you have a proportional throttle(!) and no more glitches."
I did that.
1- The plane without the radio is $120! I can buy a Slow Stick, a Tiger Moth, and several spare batteries for that much.
2- When I put my Hitech 555 receiver in there, I did have a fully proportional throttle. What people didn't tell me was that the first half of my throttle stick movement is worthless. The motor didn't came on until I gave it 50% stick. In other words, 50%-100% stick give me 0% to 100% throttle. With only half the stick the work with, the throttle setting got a little touchy.
3- FYI, you can't repair the body (been there too). You just keep crashing until the body is too bent out of shape. Then the only thing to do then is to replace it.
Try to find a place with no power lines, cell phone towers, etc. And stay away from housing additions. Kids with their toy RC cars will drive your plane nuts.

I had the engine intermittent with mine also.
At first I added about 15 inches of wire to the antenna and this did help a bit. When I did get a new Radio and Receiver all the glitches stopped. HiTec laser 4 with the feather package for 109 at my local hobby dealer.

Interesting Post. I am having the same exact problem with my new FM radio.
Also, when I turn my radio transmitter off, the plane go bezerk. The servos are twiching like crazy and the motor is very jumpy. I am assuming this is interference from something else.....right? When I turn the radio back on, it stops but I experience what I think is a ton of interferrence while up in the air.
I may try another field, but like this area a lot! I had two deer in the field last night and they were spooked by my plane.

You should always turn your receiver off before you turn off your transmitter. Conversely, turn on your transmitter then turn the receiver on.
The most expesive electronics will do what you described when you turn on the receiver before the transmitter.

We have several T-hawks in our club, but they are all being flown on people's own radios, not the ones that Toytronics sells. No one has reported these problems.
BTW, if you buy the T-Hawk with the FM radio option (27 mhz) the throttle IS proportional. They added this feature last year.
Servo chatter and the like with the transmitter off is normal. As posted above. Receiver off first, then the transmitter on all set-ups.
I will be watching to see if you figure out what the cause is of the glitching.

Just another quick post. I bought the newest version of the T-Hawk(purchased4/27/04) with the NiMH batterys and FM controller and prop.throttle control. I have had problems with servo gears stripping and intermittant motor running with the radio on and the throttle off. This is with the combo's radio. I like the way the T-Hawk flys, but its always broke!

aeajr, I e-mailed the company ,but haven't received a reply yet. They usually reply promptly,so I assume I will hear from them soon. If I get it to fly, I will just crash it so I guess there is no hurry. I'm a slow learner at this R/C flight thing and there are no hobby shops near my rural location. Its getting expensive to replace all the parts I break, mainly due to shipping charges. I think I need a new hobby!

Don't give up . I belong to the same club as ed and he has seen what I have done with the T-Hawk from extra long wing to skies for the snow. Try calling the customer service #. And never forget that your best friend is ALTITUDE when flying Don't be afraid to get high so you have more time to recover from mistakes.

JBOSS - My T-Hawk is still broke, so I took everyones advice and flew my Aero-bird at a much higher altitude. The wind must have gotten it, because I couldn't get it back. I got lucky and found it. Too low, in the trees - too high, it runs away. Will I ever learn?
