E-Flite Gypsy
 

I have just recently bought the Eflite Gypsy and let me just say no more parkzone. I love how this thing fly's very responsive and plenty of power i am using a gws 350 motor with a 730aaa nimh pack. Flight times are about 10-12 min. Just a word of caution do not use the stock motor from eflite it is like putting a 4banger in a cadilac sure it will run but just. Has anyone else had a chance to get there hands on this bird if so lets hear what you have to say about it.

Ive been pondering it for a while after your input I think ill look into one. Its a beautiful plane.

The Eflite Gypsy is a very well built and very stable plane. It would make a perfect second plane I would not recommend it to the beginer if you do not have any building or covering skills.

35.25 inch Wingspan
Flying Weight is 18oz.
Comes with geared 5.33 370 motor with 10x4.7 prop

I do not recommend using the stock motor it didnt last past breakthrough it locked up in the process. I use a gws350 motor with 12 tooth pinion retimed 8mm advance will give you approx 20% more power with no side affects of motor wear or overheating.
Radio used is a parkzone unit from a j-3 cub.
Building process was pretty straight forward when attaching the rear stabilizer cut less than what the instructions say or you will have bear balsa showing test fit everything before making any cuts in the ultracote.

Flying the Eflite Gypsy is a blast it will do any basic aerobatic trick such as
Loop from level flight
Inverted flight with maximum throws
Nice slow Rudder roles
Hammerheads
Chandells
Touch and Go's are very beutiful
This plane will handle moderate winds less than 15 mph
All in All it is a very good plane no complaints here. If any of you have thought about purchasing one i would recommend it. Granted it is no speed demon but it is a good relaxing afternoon, weekend flyer.

What does 12 tooth pinion retimed 8mm advance mean? Ive
placed an order for my Gypsy and will convert my J-3
to this plane also. I also have a TM 400, Any info will be
greatly appreciated. Good-bye J-3 Cub

Chris,

Part #'s for GWS 350 motor and pinion would be a big help.
There are several to choose from and I would pick the wrong
one.

One more question, will my TM 400 motor work in the Gypsy?
I'm thinking about getting the BP21 Brushless outrunner for my
TM400 and using the 400 motor on the gypsy with the J-3 Cub
equipment. Sorry for all the questions!

yes u can use the 400 but flight time sucks, and she will haul *****. i love it in mine

Guys,

Would you reccommend getting rid of the gear box and
running the E-flight Park 370 brushless motor 3600Kv
direct on this model.

Hi,

Maidened the Gypsy a few days ago and have had several flights since.
Lovely dainty little model, converted to a 2410-12 brushless bell motor coupled to a 10A ESC.
After conversion the Gypsy was nose heavy but instead of adding weight fitted a 7.2v 800mAh lipo
under the fuse with a velcro strap and gives about 10 to 15 minutes flying time.
Full power gives an almost vertical climb rate and she flies well on 1/3 throttle.
Steep glide angle with motor off. Very responsive to the controls, a little up elevator on the turn.
With a 8mph breeze landing is almost Harrier type, about 1 foot landing roll.
To sum up, I love it. For a relaxed days flying it can't be beat (apart from the EasyStar).
Drew a lot of attention when flown at the club flying site especially from the I.C. faternity.

you are not gonna want to run that motor direct drive if it is 3600 kv on two cells a 3-4 inch prop will still probobly overload. Howevber it will probobly work great in the supplied gear box.

i just looked on the eflite website that motor is recomended to go into the stock gear box as a performance up grade.

did something a little different in the "Gypsy Skunk works." I inherited the plane from a neighbor that wanted my ten year old to have the plane. after several frustrating attempts to fly it with the stock set up, I made some changes

Took out the stock engine, and went with the Park 400 (yes it is overkill). I opened up the internals and made room for a 3C 2100 lipo. I added an additional servo mounted on the top of the wing in the wooden center section near the back. This controls two control horns that operate a small set of ailerons i fashioned out of some spare thin foam. It flies extremely well and my 10 year old soloed with a smile.

I took it out one day at lunch and had a battery problem shortly after take off. I was a little slow on the switch and was counting on having the extra power to handle the big winds I was flying in. the gypsy bought the farm, and is very trashed (wing is fine) with all of the front destroyed. Thought about throwing it out but I think I will rebuild over the winter. The extra power was helpful in getting my son out of sticky situations, and the extra weight helped it in the wind. flew great with the cargo

Hey guys I just made a new account here and was hoping to get some insight from experienced flyers.<div>
</div><div>I just got this GYPSY from a yard sale for 10$ with everything included. Most of the body is fine and wing is ok. It has minimal damage to the tail, wood is a little cracked and the rod from the fixed gear to the propeller is bent. I think it was worth it. besides some gluing, bending, and re-calibrating the center of gravity, I was thinking of getting a new motor and battery if I wasn't satisfied with performance. </div><div>
