Default JetCAT USA V4.0 ECU Product Announcement

Hello everyone!

As many of our customers can attest, the JetCAT ECU is one of the finest on the market today. It has gone years without a major upgrade.

Coincident with the formation of JetCAT USA, Bob Wilcox and Markus Zipperer began to cooperatively design an ECU specifically targeted to the US customer's needs. Now, JetCAT USA and JetCat AG have teamed to produce the first JetCAT ECU designed specifically for use in the USA with specific consideration given to all US RC frequency bands, including all amateur bands.

JetCAT is happy to announce the availability of the new V4.0 ECU upgrade!

Here is a brief description of some of the new features included with this V 4.0 upgrade

1.) Radio Control Failsafe Behavior

The upgraded V4.0 ECU is able to recognize a failsafe condition and react with one of several a pre- defined options. These options include:

1.) Wait a preprogrammed time and bring the throttle to idle. If the RC link is reestablished, normal turbine operation is resumed.
2.) If the failsafe condition continues, wait another preprogrammed time and then shut the turbine off.
3.) Output a distinctive smoke signal (or strobe light signal, or a drop tank etc if the plane is so equipped!!)

So now you no longer have to decide whether or not to set your turbine to shutdown instantly on a failsafe condition!! The user can enjoy the safety of controlled failsafe shutdown, while not suffering the “instant off” syndrome of some radios failsafe designs!!

2.) Propane/Butane dump (as suggested by Bob Violett)

While most of us enjoy the convenience of total on board starting equipment, Bob Violett expressed concern about carrying ANY compressed flammable gas in the plane during a flight. V4.0 includes an option to dump the excess starting gas after every start. In a safe and controlled manner, the gas is introduced into the combustion of the running turbine.

Of course this option necessitates filling the on board bottle before each flight, but many are doing this a checklist item anyway.

3.) Hardware Failure Detection

During operation it is possible for certain sensors (such as the exhaust gas temperature or the RPM) to fail. The V4.0 ECU now detects failures of these sensors and automatically transfers turbine to an open loop mode, allowing control of the turbine while ignoring all inputs from the suspect sensor. On the next attempted start, the ECU will indicate that a sensor error was detected on the last run, and with the GSU the user can diagnose the nature of the failure.

There are other new features as well (manual starting, increased diagnostics, etc). Check the website for details next week!

Terms and Conditions:

As I mentioned this is an upgrade to your existing ECU. This upgrade involves both hardware and software changes. The customer sends his hardware to JetCAT USA for the upgrade.

This is a limited time offer, effective April 1 2002 to May 31 2002.

The offer limited to JetCAT USA (or authorized distributor) customers only.

For those customers that bought their turbine after Jan 1 2002, the cost is $24.95, including return 2 day shipping.

For those customers that bought their turbines prior to Jan 1, the cost is $49.95, including return 2 day shipping.

For all other customers that did not buy their unit from JetCAT USA or an authorized distributor, the cost is $124.95
