Default Sledge Material List

Ok Ok, I can't stand it any more.....

Smashed Sig Ultimate
Nashville Pro Bro Flyin
Gators Covering on the Depot #20
WayneGeffen's Great Looking Graphics and scheme
Rolling Harriers
JWilliams helping any way he can
Jess flying better than any TOC guy
Paul Building 3 at a time
Bizzaro Bill building 7 !!!!!! :sunsmiley :sunsmiley :sunsmiley

It all adds up to more than I can stand !

I've decided to try and get one together before Nashville and I'm placing my order for a couple of short kits today.

Could someone give me a material list so I can order my wood from Lonestar?

It would save me several days and at the rate I work, I'm Going to need it!

Thanks

Mark

Default Sledge Material List

jmulder,

Thanks for taking the time to make up the list....

Just ordered the short kit from Robert and although he was not sure what was "not" in the short kit, he agreed to throw in some leading edge material which is great because thats the only thing that Lonestar does not list on their web site.

He also said the hardwood comes in the kit.

I'm stoked!

There is a change to the leading edge material. It is not official yet but it is going back to the 3/4" tri stock glued to the front of the ribs. Works much better and you can better dictate your leading edge. Jeff W.

Their landing gear sucks!! Its not even worth the time to put in the kits. I really cant remember about the rest of it. I just left it all in the box and chunked it.

Man, I loved the wheels, the control horns, the metal clevises w/keeper, the pull-pull set-up, the tank, the only thing I didn't use was the landing gear. I thought it had damn fine hardware, and I'm the kind of guy who usually likes to buy his own favorite brands.

Sounds like you have some other issues with Morris or something...

I agree with chuck the harware was just fine for mine. My only gripe was that mine came with clevises on the pull-pull for only one end of the setup. Meaning you loop the wire through the control horn and crimp it. If you want to move it in or out you have to replace the cable.

Look at the 3rd page of the "Sledge Fest" thread to see how I got around the servo end...and no, that hardware didn't come with the kit, but it's what I use on everything so I had plenty of them.

LOL I dont have a gripe with Morris. I think they have some awesome designs. I have got some crappy wood though. I did use the wheels and fuel tank. I forgot about that. Other than that I used other stuff.

Can someone please explain what JWilliams might mean by (better dictate) the leading edge?

How do you like the leading edge on your sledge?, more blunt or rounder or? Why? Flying difference?

FYI, going to build my 1st 2 kits in about 3-4 months, one each Sledge and OMP edge. when my forever house remodeling gets closer to being done.

Still trying to get time to fly the built by someoneelse sledge thats still awaiting the ys 63 new in box. :-(.

Id fly it now if I could get the ST 51 reliable. :-( Got the ST 51 tips from this site but need the time to play with it one more time.

Thanks, Dennis

Dennis..the Sledge uses a piece of 1/4" thick balsa for the LE material. It is just barely enough to make a rounded LE and some folks have had trouble getting it round enough.

From what I understand, this is not how his original design was..he evidently used a piece of 3/4" tri stock on his original prototypes before Morris took over the design.

The rounded LE is preferred. If you substitute a piece of 5/16" this or even 3/8" thick material for the LE you could get a nicely rounded LE with much less effort.

It is possible to get a rounded LE from the 1/4" thick LE material...many have done it....but you would have more material to work with if the LE was just a bit thicker.

Dennis Tampa FL, by saying better dictate I meant that the builder could decide if they wanted the leading edge blunt or more pointed. The tri stock has sufficient material for those options without any measurable weight gain. Hope that helps, Jeff Williams

Default RE: Sledge Material List

Can someone confirm the materials list for the short kit in posts 2-3 is correct.
I already have the short kit and plans, about to order my wood from Lone Star.

Thanks!

(I already know about using 3/4" triangle stock on the leading edge)

Martyg, at the front of the instruction manual there is a materials list. However, since you are buying your own wood. I suggest using 48" sticks and sheeting. Now you will not have a split center section on your wing. The leading edge material has been changed from 1/4" X 1" balsa stick to 3/4" tri stock. Lone star only has it in 36" lengths and so you will need two. I also recommend the use of contest grade balsa anywhere within the construciton. If you need further information you may email me at [email protected] best of luck, Jeff Williams

For comparison, what grade does Morris provide?

Hey Jeff.... How do you do the main spar without cutting it in the middle? I did the sheeting in one piece, but not the spar... figured it was too drastic of an angle....

Default RE: Sledge Material List

The manual (color photocopies) I got with my short kit did not have a materials list.

Jeff, are you talking about building the wing in one piece? I would love to go that way!
I read through the instructions, and studied the plan.
The wing looks like it has a double-tapered chord - Can you really do one-piece spars?

I guess I could sheet the leading/trailing edge in one piece once the halves are joined.
I this what you meant? What would the sticks be used for? What am I missing?
