Default MH Su-do-Khoi fuel tank question

I put nice servo rails in my plane and would like some suggestions for a 6 oz. tank that I can sneak by into the front of the wing. Anyone out there have a suggestion about a good low profile type tank?? I'd hate to have to mount an external tank.

I've only built 2 of these and installed the last rail of the servo mount AFTER the tank was in. Used the 6 ounce Sullivan that came stock both times. You could cut out the rail that interefers and install the tank, then glue the rail back in with just a little bit of extra wood to reinforce the cut area. You will never stress this area enough to break it. Just my $.02

Don't know of any that will work. I just finished a knife and I put my tank opposite side of the motor. I got 4 hooks from the hardware store and secured the tank with rubber bands. Besides if you ever have tank problems your kind of SOL when it comes time to service the tank.

I mounted my servos to the hatch with hardwood rails, it was a lot easier, and I used six screws instead of 4 to hold the hatches on. Good luck with yours.

Default Tank - frenched in

Tank - frenched in

I get ridiculously long flight times.....18 - 20 minutes... You could probably get by with a 6 oz tank.

Default MH Su-do-Khoi fuel tank question

I have a Tower Extra Special .40 that I mounted the tank externally on the engine side with hooks and rubber bands. That will be no problem to do if I choose that route (thanks Jerry for the tank mounting board pics/plan).

I should have mentioned that I glued the rails in on the left wing where tank is shown on the plans (opposite engine) but not on the right (not yet anyway) where te radio gear is shown. Therefore, I can still get a regular tank in the wing if I put it on the engine side & use battery & Rx to try to laterally balance the engine. Directions say to laterally balance with a full tank of gas and that's a LOT of weight on the right side. So ... my chices are in no particular order:
1.) find a slim tank for inside left wing 1/2 w/o cutting rails (still need tank suggestions if anyone has any)
2.) cut rails and "bury" tank on left side
3.) "bury" tank in right wing 1/2
4.) mount externally on the left

Sulivan makes a "heat to fit" tank that might work... You could heat it up and press it into place.... Something like this: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFU61&P=7

Personally, I like mounting the tank on the outside...

Thanks, Paul ... I'll look at this tank at my local hobby shop & see if it is worth the effort. Otherwise it will be external.

By the way sweet covering job on the plane in the avtar

here is how I mouted the tank on my Sudokhoi. Notched wing. Works perfectly. Put some velcro on notch and on tank. Then secure with tie wrap thru fuse.

Great suggestions, guys. I appreciate it ... especially the pictures. Not sure how I'll do it yet but I have a hunch it will be external & as close to CG as possible.
