How do you transport your profiles?
Hey All,
I'm curious how everyone transports their profiles. Given that most of them have the wings permanently attached, it can get tricky to safely load one, let alone multiple aircraft and gear.
Are you using trucks, vans, trailers, etc? How many can/do you take with you?

i just throw em in my mini van (took all rear seats out) gets a little tight with 4 planes...then gotta stand em on thier nose and wheels....works good ....when your done for the day just hover land em in the back door of the van and go !

How do you transport your profiles?
Most of them fit really well in the back of a small sedan. I have had my Topcap in a Dodge Neon no problem. Just put one wingtip behind the front passenger seat on the floor and stand the other wing straight up. The landing gear will rest on the back seat. Works great

Mine all fit very nicely in the back of my 1993 Jeep Cherokee 2 Door - with lots of room left over for my little tool kit and Tx.

I can stand 5 .40 size profiles on their nose with their tails in the air in the back of my Expedition. I think I could get 4 more in there with the seats down. Picture in the morning.

Transport
Jason, my TopCap would not fit in my Neon unless I took the landing gear off. I now use a mini van to haul all my airplanes in. A couple months ago I went looking for a different second car, and I always took a profile with me to look at cars. If the profile didn't fit the car wasn't an option. I bought a used Hyundai Accent, and it will hold 2 profiles and my Diablotin Super. Tom

I got a suburban and a 6 X 12 Haulmark enclosed trailer. But, I am lucky/blessed to have that. I can haul 2 profiles and a 35% plane in the suburban and I have hauled up to 23 planes in my Haulmark trailer (ala the Houston pro bro). Jeff Williams

How do you transport your profiles?
I just put the top down on my Seabring Convertible and put my profile nose down in the back seat. Landing gear rests on the seat. Only prob is I cant drive faster than 30mph or my TopCap tries to fly out. I only live 10 minutes from the airfield so I just use back-roads and my hazard lights.
My other profiles are short enough to put the rag-top back up. My other planes (non-profile) will fit in the trunk (one only) if I carry field gear up front. All in all ... I can only take one plane at a time to the airfield.
Also ... remember I have to still have room to put my wheelchair in the front seat. I normally put it in the back but the plane takes up the whole seat. The upside to having the wheelchair take up plane space means I only have to carry back ONE broken plane at the end of the day ... unlike Chuck

I'm scratch building one (like a sledge) right now with plug-in wings. Two car seats in the back seat didn't leave much choice. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

i am new to profiles so i dont no anything abou them
i am getting a sledge and wondering if the wing comes off or what???

How do you transport your profiles?
I have an OMP edge kit that i intent to start soon. Would like to see if it can be modified for plug in wings. Any info would be appreciated. I believe it will have a wing tube with anti rotation pins like the big boys have?

How do you transport your profiles?
Just like the big ones. Mine has an aluminum tube built into each wing. It acts like a spar stiffener through the first couple of ribs. Also has a smaller one for the anti rotation pins. Dowel is permanantly slotted through ply wing root in fuse. The wings are slid on and attached with bolts through "L brackets" and the profile on the top and bottom of the wings.
The right wing is semi permanently attached on mine with a second smaller set of bolts. My receiver is on that side and this way I can leave that wing on and not have to mess with tons of wires and plugs. The left wing has only the battery pack and one aileron servo in it. Two plugs to connect, slide the wing, on put two bolts through the whole works and you're ready to go.
I don't think it really adds any significant weight over a conventional spar doubler and it packs down small enough with one wing removed that I can get it and a flightbox in the trunk.
